No real threat of dropping to 4th, but within 3 years, I'd like to be back in 2nd. Not sure we can get back to 1st for a while with us having to play in the ACC and UK being in the junior varsity conference. But really, this stat is ...meh. I mean, who here wouldn't trade 100 of those wins for another championship? 200?

We may have to worry about wins we're about to lose off of this list rather than gaining ground...

good point, but has Kentucky ever lost any wins in their history? They've been busted a few times in the past for various infractions.

Consider the competition.....they played in the inept SEC and we are in the ACC...enough said.

What NEVER seems to be mentioned is how many seasons did it take to get the wins!

UK- 2178 in 112 seasons
KU- 2153 in 117 seasons
UNC-2140 in 105 seasons
Duke- 2059 in 110 seasons

So do the math!

UK-19 wins per season
KU-18 wins per season
UNC-20 wins per season
Duke-18 wins per season

They play in that sorry football conf is the only reason they have the lead! Look at our head to head we own them if they played in the acc it would be even worse dook would own them head to head! Racked up all those wins in that sorry sec this year and keep printing those 40 and 0 shirts out every year while the state of North Carolina is going to have back to back national champs duke 2015 and Unc 2016!

but if you want to get real, then how about this for average wins per season:

1. UNC 20.38
2. Kentucky 19.45
3. Duke 18.72
4. Kansas 18.40

The Heels have AVERAGED over 20 wins per season for 100+ years of basketball; and 1 - 2 more wins per season than any of the other blue-bloods.

I like Mike's math better...

So has UK if you take away those 8 extra seasons. They actully have a 20.5 wins a season average. Those 8 season UK played on average 8.5 games a season. Those early years were really short seasons. Think the first year with over 20 games for unc was 20-21 season for uk was 24-25 season. Really intresting to look back at the early days of the sport.

no big deal, but since unc has the shorter time frame its a bit misleading as stated above since some of the other schools started years earlier, those years may only contain 7-8-9-10 games, but anywho...great accomplishments nonetheless

Thanks for posting that Mike. I travel to Kentucky quite often and those folks up there are really, really big talkers about how they have more wins than other schools especially UNC. They don't want to hear that Rupp counted all his wins against the local YMCA programs and that they have played considerably more years than UNC. Never let the truth get in the way of fact.

I always questioned UK's massive project on "re-counting" their wins about a decade or so ago...then they quite suddenly had a big lead on UNC in the win column.
