Four Tar Heels Earn All-ACC Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. --- North Carolina sophomore right-hander Zac Gallen was named to the All-ACC second team to lead four honorees as announced by the league office Monday. Senior righty Benton Moss and junior outfielder Skye Bolt were third-team selections and newcomer J.B. Bukauskas was named to the all-freshman team as voted by the league's 14 head coaches.

Gallen emerged as UNC's Friday night starter to open ACC play and finished the regular season with a 3-3 record and a 2.79 ERA. A native of Gibbsboro, New Jersey, Gallen had 67 strikeouts in a team-high 77.1 innings and limited opposing hitters to a .224 batting average. The sophomore was especially effective at home in 2015, posting an ERA of 0.43 in 42.1 innings at Boshamer Stadium.

Moss established himself as one of the most prolific pitchers in school history during his senior season. The Enfield, North Carolina, product enters the postseason with a 7-0 record in 12 starts and currently ranks in the top 10 all-time at UNC in wins, strikeouts, winning percentage and innings pitched.

Bolt tied for the team lead with nine home runs and 39 RBIs to lead the Carolina offense in his junior season. The Woodstock, Georgia, center fielder posted a .264/.386/.451 slash line during the regular season and established himself as one of the league's top defensive outfielders.

Bukauskas was a fixture in the weekend rotation as a true freshman throughout 2015. A native of Ashburn, Virginia, Bukauskas was 4-3 in the regular season with a 4.16 ERA and 60 strikeouts in 67 innings. He led the Tar Heels in starts with 13 and held opponents to a .241 batting average that dipped to .226 in league play.

Gallen, Moss, Bolt, Bukauskas and the rest of the Tar Heels open play in the 2015 ACC Championship Tuesday afternoon at 3 against Virginia Tech. The Tar Heels will be the home team in the play-in game, which will be televised by the ACC Regional Sports Network.
