As the COVID-19 pandemic continues with many thousands of new infections reported each day, there is a need for widely applicable surveillance testing to gain a better understanding of infection rates, especially the number of infections in people with mild or no symptoms, who can still be carriers. UNC Team to Explore COVID-Related Airway Issues

Three UNC faculty — from mathematics, applied physical sciences and pharmacy — have received a rapid response research grant from the National Science Foundation to explore the critical role of airway mucus in the transmission, infection and spread versus protection from COVID-19.
