Happy Easter, Tar Heel fans.

Heels fall into an early 4-0 hole and are at risk of being swept. Good grief. Top of the 3rd UNC loads the bases with no outs. Sac scores 1 run and a wild pitch scores 1 more to make it 4-2 Tigers. Runner on 2nd with 1 out.

More updates as I'm able.

Lassiter grounds to 2nd and is thrown out, but Bolt advances to 3rd. UNC with the squeeze bunt! It works, and Bolt scores from 3rd to make it 4-3 Clemson. Gahagan goes down looking to strand a runner, but the Heels pull within 1.

Re: UNC vs. Clemson - Game 3

1-2-3 inning for Moss.

Dudek leads off and hits a high fly ball to shallow center. The Clemson CF loses it in the sun and it falls in between him, the LF, and the SS. Dudek ends up with a lead-off double as the Heels catch a break. No outs, RISP, Heels trail 4-3 T4.

Re: UNC vs. Clemson - Game 3

Leadoff hitter singles but is caught stealing. Moss retires the next two batters and seems to be settling in...not sure what happened at the outset of the game.

Tied at 4 heading into the 5th inning. I've got to sign off for a while....

Re: UNC vs. Clemson - Game 3

Heels got another run in the 5th to make it 5-4. Meanwhile, Moss has held the Tigers at bay.

In the top of the 7th, Tyler Ramirez drives a 3-run homer over the right field fence and UNC has now scored 8 straight runs to lead 8-4.

Re: UNC vs. Clemson - Game 3

We rejoin the action in the bottom of the 9th. UNC's lead is now only 8-7.

Trent Thornton is on the mound, trying to redeem last night's late collapse.

First batter hits an infield chopper. Thornton is able to snag it and make the throw. 1 away.

Re: UNC vs. Clemson - Game 3

Next batter walks on a 5-pitch count to put the tying run aboard. Runner then steals second.

Thornton walks the next batter on a 5-pitch count as well, and here we go again.

2 on, 1 out, Heels clinging to a 1-run lead.

Coach Forbes to the mound.

Struck him out looking!!!

Heels take game 3 8-7 but lose the road series 2-1 to Clemson.

Next game is at home against Coastal Carolina, Tuesday at 6:00 pm. This will be a rematch of an earlier road game, where the Chanticleers hammered Carolina 13-2. Hopefully there's a little revenge in the offing. Heels also have a home mid-week game Wednesday against Liberty, also at 6:00 pm.

CLEMSON, S.C. --- Tyler Ramirez drove in five runs and blasted his fourth home run of the year and No. 18 North Carolina held on for a wild 8-7 win over Clemson Sunday afternoon at Doug Kingsmore Stadium. Carolina rallied from a 4-0 hole to lead 8-4 in the seventh after the Ramirez homer, but Clemson got the tying runs aboard in the ninth against Trent Thornton. The UNC junior, who got out of a bases-loaded jam in the eighth, struck out Reed Rohlman and Chris Okey to end it.

Clemson (16-15, 7-8 ACC) struck for three in the first on Okey's homer to left and made it 4-0 against Benton Moss (5-0) in the second. But the Tar Heel senior was sharp over the next three innings to keep the Tar Heels (18-13, 7-8 ACC) within striking distance.

Carolina scored three times in the third and tied it in the fourth on a Korey Dunbar RBI groundout. Skye Bolt doubled and scored on a Ramirez single to make it 5-4 in the fifth before the UNC right fielder's line drive homer to right in the seventh pushed the Tar Heel lead to 8-4.

But the Tigers rallied for the second straight day, and Moss left after allowing consecutive hits in the bottom of the seventh. Jason Morgan gave up a two-run double to Eli White that pulled Clemson within two, but the freshman righty got the final three outs of the seventh to keep it 8-6.

Thornton entered in the eighth with the bases loaded and nobody out after Trevor Kelley issued back-to-back walks to Chase Pinder and Andrew Cox. Thornton struck out Weston Wilson for the first out and Alex Raburn turned a 5-2 double play on a grounder from White to keep Carolina in front.

The UNC junior closer got his fifth save of the year after walking the tying and winning runs in the ninth. With one out, Thornton struck out Rohlman on a sharp curve before freezing Okey with a fastball at the knees.

Carolina avoided its first series sweep against the Tigers since 1997 with the win and will head home to Chapel Hill for a seven-game homestand starting Tuesday. The Tar Heels host Coastal Carolina and Liberty during the week before welcoming North Carolina State for three starting Friday.
