Here's your chance, Heels fans.

Bradley Bethel, the UNC reading specialist and creator of the "Coaching the Mind" blog, is creating a documentary aimed at challenging the misconceptions surrounding the athletic/academic scandal at UNC. The link below is for the Kickstarter campaign designed to raise funding for the film.

I know we all have differing views about the usefulness of Bethel's work. But if you love Carolina, and are tired of seeing UNC's name dragged through the mud, I encourage you to contribute to this project. Every little bit helps. This is our chance to fight back against the sensationalized accounts of everything that has happened over the last 5 years.

Mods, would you mind pinning this thread please? The Kickstarter campaign runs through February 28. Thank you.

Thanks for the pin!

Wow. Bethel posted links to the Kickstarter site on Facebook and Twitter around 10:30 last night. In less than 12 hours, it's already at 40% of its goal. I think this is really going to happen.

Go Heels!

P.S. The Penn State documentary, "365 Days: A Year in Happy Valley", is now available free on Hulu. I haven't watched it yet but probably will this weekend. Curious to see the other side of the Sandusky story and get an idea what the UNC production might look like.

Does anyone have Bradley's e-mail address? My son, the biggest Heels fan in the world, makes/directs movies and is located locally. He would most certainly help Bradley with this movie and likely at a very reduced cost. If you have Bradley's email address, please provide. My family is passionate about correcting the screw job at UNC over the last four years - the fiasco started by an idiot named ht.

Reached the goal of $50K in less than 24 hours . . . and with just 233 very good peeps contributing.

I'm a big fan of Mr. Bradley Bethel . .

Just for the record, I went to high school with the "DP"...if you can even call him that.
I'm confused. Who are you referring to?
[Edit:] Nevermind. You must mean the director of photography. Well, he's pretty clear about his dookie love in his bio on the site. I think it's a good thing. If it were just a bunch of UNC homers making this film, it would lose its objectivity. But if they can involve dookies and wuffies, and even THEY agree the coverage has been unfair, then it makes the message even more powerful IMO.

Anyone have info on the current status and planned/potential release date of the film?

Interesting. Well, hopefully he treats it like a job and doesn't have any say over the direction or editing of the film. Wonder why he'd sign on if he hates Carolina so much?
he may be able to slip in some anti-carolina bias but basically he just wants to remind people that the school he hates has been thru a major "scandal." he's keeping it alive, not letting it die quietly now that the investigation is finally ending. the title alone, regardless of the content, will be an anti-unc soundbite -- something like "the truth behind the UNC athletic/academic scandal." i NEVER trust an abc'er.

Seems like we are trying to diffuse a bomb after its already gone off. Could have used this films release about 2 years ago....now not so sure. Best wishes with the project though.

Sept has come and gone. Has anyone received any update of status/expected release date/etc.?

Haven't heard anything specific, just some tweets that it's taking longer than expected to get it just right. Sounds like all the filming, interviewing, and content has been completed but they're in the process of editing.

Got an email recently regarding the film. They wanted my address to send my "reward" for funding the project. Anyway, here's the message:

We know you have been anxious for updates, and so we apologize for keeping you waiting. Please know that the delay has only been due to the time-consuming nature of filmmaking and to our taking the utmost care to make this a quality film. We have some big announcements coming soon. In the meantime, we need your address to deliver your reward. Thanks for your support!

No specifics about a timeline there. That's a shame since the success of the football team this season could help bring greater visibility to the film. I hope they get it finished and released soon.

The release date has been set for January 8:

----------------------------

Dear Supporters,

After nine months of filming and editing, which couldn't have happened without your support, we are nearly finished and have secured a premiere date for the film. Unverified: The Untold Story Behind the UNC Scandal will premiere on January 8 at The Varsity on Franklin.

However, we still have work to do. Although we raised over $175,000 total, our funding has still been only about half of what many documentary films of this magnitude have. To cover some final post-production costs and to market and distributeUnverified across the country, we need to raise another $25,000. Later this week, we will launch a second Kickstarter campaign, preselling tickets to a limited number of special North Carolina screenings that will each include a Q&A with me and other members of the production team. Tickets to these special screenings will only be available through the Kickstarter campaign. If we sell out these screenings, we will have the funds we need to then market and distribute Unverified to a national audience.

Prior to launching the second Kickstarter campaign later this week, we will give you, our original supporters, an exclusive first look at the trailer. We know you will be excited to see the film, and we hope you will extend your generosity again, by contributing to the second campaign.

Thank you for your support. I look forward to sharing Unverifiedwith you soon.

Sincerely,
Bradley Bethel
