CHAPEL HILL --- For the ninth consecutive year, supporters of the University of North Carolina baseball program will have the opportunity to kick off the upcoming season with a memorable evening at the Diamond Heels' First Pitch Dinner, scheduled for Jan. 28, 2017, at the Loudermilk Center For Excellence at Kenan Stadium on the UNC campus.

This year's event will feature 14-year MLB veteran and 1988 AL Rookie of the Year Walt Weiss as the featured speaker. Weiss was a two-time first-team All-ACC shortstop at Carolina before being selected in the first round of the 1985 MLB Draft by the Oakland A's.

In addition to Weiss, a number of other former Tar Heel standouts are expected to be in attendance, including Colin Moran and Jacob Stallings. This year will mark the 10-year anniversary the 2007 team that advanced to the finals of the College World Series, while both Moran and Stallings made their MLB debuts this past season.

The 2017 First Pitch Dinner will begin at 5:30 p.m. with an MVP Reception with Weiss and other special Carolina baseball guests. The silent auction and meet and greet session with the 2017 Tar Heels will begin at 6:30, with the dinner program and live auction to follow at 7:15.

Silent auction items include signed jerseys from Moran and Stallings, a 2016 Cleveland Indians World Series memorabilia package, an Andrew Miller signed baseball and two floor seats to the UNC-Pitt men's basketball game on Jan. 31.

Highlighting this year's live auction are a signed Dustin Ackley UNC jersey, a signed Andrew Miller World Series jersey and a pair of MLB fan experiences that include round-trip airfare and hotel for two games of the Yankees-Mets series in August or the Giants-Indians series in July.
