Anyone heard anything about Carolina's involvement with Gaffney? He received a crystal ball prediction to Carolina last night by a Wisconsin insider.

Watched the clips and I love his sweet stroke. I would like to see a little more hustle on D, a little more post play, and less dribbling, but that step back is money. If someone can get to him and rev his motor up one more notch (while developing his body) this kid looks special!

Go Get 'Em Roy!

Yeah, some nice highlights. Kid is looong.

From December last year, he looks a little gangly with decent lift:

This vid is more recent (June 29) looks like he's filled out some and much more confident:

He certainly has the potential for greatness. Hope he can keep his head with all the hype that is headed his way.

He would be a superstar in Tar Heel Blue!

Saw that he dribbled a bit too far in on the baseline and almost had the ball taken from him, he will learn. Looks solid and smooth. Saw a bit of defense too. Defense and hustle will get you on the floor Alonzo, come on down to CH!

In the second video, rally didn't care for the show boating, mostly his guard. Looks to be from that Henson mold, 6'9" but go go gadjet long arms, nice looking jump shot but he is so much longer than his defenders not sure if it would fall in college like it does in these clips. Intensity, focus, strength, cut down on the mustard.

wow. 247 has him as the 19th ranked in the class. Rivals in the top 100, but scout has him as a 3 star. How could opinions differ that much?

Yeah this is a kid who is shooting up the boards. There are a few of these kids every class where they seem to hit a growth spurt or just grow into their body at like 16 years old and improve dramatically.

We've been rolling in the recruiting love as of late :)

You often see the rankings adjust over time, since they don't update every other day. Remember Coby was still a very low 4 * not too long ago.

He's really trending up right now. According to Bossi, 5* status is possible for his rivals ranking. See article below.

Definitely seems to be a prospect on the rise, and he's clearly very talented. Based on the available tape (which is limited), I'm not sure I see him as a wing. His off-the-dribble offense seems to be mostly step-back jumpers. Without threatening to actually attack off the dribble, that won't work in college, and I don't see the quickness to beat college 3s off the dribble.

He may yet develop into a wing (as a poor man's Durant), but I'd play him at the 4 in college.

Yeah same here. Rivals seems to be the only major recruiting site that lists him as a SF.

Gaffney moved all the way up to #27 in Espn's updated 2019 player rankings. They have him listed as a small forward but I see no reason why he can't be a stretch 4. Needs to add weight but he has 2 more years of high school.

His offers are going to pile up. I'd like to see Roy move pretty quick on this kid and prioritize him.

Amazing what playing in back to back Natty games and being the NCAA defending champions does for your consideration with recruits! In the 2019 class we already have the #2 and #3 ranked recruits looking hard at us and rumor is the #1 kid in 2020 likes us a lot. When we finally get the NCAA off our butt, we will get back to annual top 5 or so classes.

Really? I haven't heard much to that effect, but I hope you're right. All those big guys ranked up there, sure would be nice to land one.

BTW, Gaffney has soared to 22 and still no offer from Roy. And Baker is at 24 and we're not even listed as an interested school. I don't get it. It's a good thing I have faith in Roy.

Gaffney has two big questions:

1) Is he actually able to play on the wing? Specifically, is he mobile enough to defend on the perimeter and explosive enough to get past defenders?

2) If not, is he willing to play at the 4?

His talent is evident (can't teach a 7'3" wingspan or good touch), but he's a tweener right now.

Offer him now Roy. He and Baker are both top 25 players who are dying to get an offer from UNC, by all accounts. Yet no offer to date. Puzzling to say the least.

I wish Little would decide, one way or another, so we could move on. Isn't Baker doing an unofficial visit very soon? Any news on who may be coming to LNWR?

Here is my question. Can he dribble a basketball?

Very puzzling!

Have to agree. I see no risk and high reward by offering these two kids. Gaffney could be a stud 4 in Carolina's system and Baker could help stretch the defense with his perimeter scoring ability. I'd offer Baker and tell him and Moore that it's first come first serve for the scholly.

The only logic i can gather from Roy not offering Baker is he's trying to conserve roster space.

If no one declares/transfers next year, and we get at least 1 more in 2018, we'll only have 2 spots left in 2019. And unless we make a complete 180 with Nickelberry, we're likely to land him too, leaving us with 1. I think Roy must really want one of the 5 * Bigs we've offered to complement the guys who will be Juniors by then.

Despite Wendell Moore sitting on his offer for months, we haven't necessarily been turning up the heat on him either. Perhaps Roy just isn't looking too hard for another SF in 2019. We do have quite a bit of talent in 2019.

Just my speculations.

I find that very hard to believe.

There are plenty of reasons to like Baker, but there are also plenty of reasons not to. He shot 40.8% from the field and 30.2% from 3 in AAU this year. Plus his AST:TO ratio was 1:2.3, and he's not regarded as a good defender.

I wouldn't be at all upset if we offered Baker, but it's plausible that he's not the type of player Roy wants.
