I watched it last night and it jarred me more than the Making Of A Murderer series. I guess because this was closer to home and they actually found out about the set-up. How Nifong escapes criminal charges is beyond me.

I didn't pay a tremendous amount of attention to it at the time. It just reinforces my resolve to try to never watch TV news.

I believe Nifong actually spent a few hours in jail, which is long enough to have done to him what he argued those dook lacrosse players did to Crystal Mangum. Better than nothing.

What makes it worse is that they will always be perceived as guilty even though they're not. Sexual assault is one of those things that never go away.

That case proved every double standard you would ever want to see when it comes to race abuse of females, that everytime someone pulls out the race or female abuse card 85% of people just run with it with out any proof it really is sad!

I had no idea those kids were railroaded that bad.

Me neither. I mean, I knew they were done wrong, but I didn't know to what extent Nifong screwed them.

Agreed. They were exonerated but the damage was done at that point. That's something you never entirely get away from. A real life ruining event for those guys. Watching that shit made me very mad and very sad. Duke rivalry be damned.

He's been shamed and rightfully vilified, no doubt. But, a few hours in jail hardly seems like much of a penalty. It's basically a joke. It's like a token gesture. What that man did was, in my opinion, so much more harmful and insidious than most any other non-violent crime.

It just overwhelms me that people can willfully ruin other people's lives like that for their own personal gain and influence. The way the proceed with it and have apparently convinced themselves of their own lies frightening, actually.

I'm glad the Innocence Network was formed in the wake of this. That will help many others who are wrongfully accused in the future. For that to be borne out of the situation, it almost makes it worth it, given the way it ended. It's at least a shiny silver lining.

That and the "undisclosed" settlement with duke University will at least make it sting less on a daily basis for those involved. I can only imagine how much dough each one of those lacrosse players got.
