Four Tar Heels Earn All-ACC Academic Honors
North Carolina's Elijah Hood, Caleb Peterson, Nathan Staub and Mitch Trubisky have been named to the 2014 All-ACC Academic Football Team, announced Wednesday by ACC Commissioner John Swofford.
Staub, a sophomore linebacker from Chestnut Mountain, Ga., is a repeat selection, also earning the honor in 2013. Hood, Peterson and Trubisky are first-time selections.
To be eligible for consideration for the team, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career. All 14 ACC schools were represented by at least two selections on the team. The ACC has selected an All-ACC Academic Football team every year since 1954.
The team was chosen from a pool of 128 eligible ACC football student-athletes who were nominated by their schools.
Staub played in all 13 games last season registering 30 tackles and one tackle for loss.
Hood, a freshman running back from Charlotte, N.C., played in nine games and finished with 259 rushing yards and four touchdowns.
Peterson, a sophomore from Auburn, Ala., started 11 games at left guard and is one of 10 returning starters in 2015.
