Moron Kal egged it on with his inaccurate portrayal of the officiating. UNC had several players with two fouls earlier than Kensucky did, and it was Kal who chose to keep his guys benched. That was his decision. Roy played his guys.

Shady got schooled by Roy - and his assembly of all stars came up short yet again - so he resorted to blaming the refs. Apparently when half your fanbase is toothless, bearded hags, that's all they needed to drive them to such despicable lows.

I can tell ya there are 13 other SEC teams rolling their collective eyes at the UK fans. What they get away with on a regular basis in the league is the stuff of legend. Do they fare worse with Higgins? Typically yes, but I defy anyone to rewatch our tourney game against them and show me anything Higgins called that was wrong that actually affected the game.
As you point out we had foul trouble early as well. They bitched because Fox and Monk picked up early fouls. Well, guess what, every single one was earned. And some were --- wait for it --- freshman fouls. As I posted in my stats thread after the game, Fox tried to bully Stilman when he came in, recklessly bodying up, and lo and behold, that 24 yr old Senior took his green ass to school.
I realize playing by the rules is foreign to Cal --- it sure as hell is in recruiting --- but sometimes you actually get forced to do just that,

Kensucky can't stand losing to Unc. But that's what happens when they play us. We own them on the court, Unc has won 3 of the 4 games played in the elite 8. Those hasbeens have 1 national championship in the last 18 years and half of there titles came in the 40s and 50s when there was like 8 teams playing in that tournament. Kills them too seat back and watch Unc win 3 national championships in the last 12 years. Dook UofL and Unc has all won a national championship since those hasbeens have won one.
They are all, pretty much, praying to God that UNC gets hammered by this. It's sad that their whole existence is based on UNC getting the death penalty.
If that is the case their existence is, shall we say, fleeting.
I will say this. My wife and her whole side of the family are UK fans. They would not let it go, after we beat them in the Elite 8 game, that it was completely the refs fault for their loss and yada yada yada. I honestly didn't know what else too tell them besides that UNC had more fouls than them at one point and that we just basically outplayed them at the end of the game despite us allowing them to get back in it bc of ridiculous miracle shots on the part of Fox and Monk. I dunno, that fan base cannot accept the reality of things at times.
I'll say it on record, obviously the Natty was the bomb... but not far behind was beating their cheating, entitled asses... especially the way it ended. Truth be told we should have won going away, but they made some huge desperation shots to get back in it. LUKE broke their hearts and stole their girlfriends (or farm animals, as the case may be)...

I will not lie Gary, I was so damn ecstatic when we won that game. My wife was so pissed she did not talk to me for 24 hours but I did not care a bit. Luke Maye became UK's daddy's that day, and I will cherish it for a until the end of time.

Amen. As Bilas said, Roy is one of the best college basketball coaches of all time. Cal is perhaps the best recruiter of all times. We see how that's worked out.
Unc will win another title before those hasbeens. The one title they have in the last 18 years was giving too them thanks too Kendall getting hurt. And the biggest cheaters in college basketball history will be back on probation. Keep your one and doners and we will Luke Maye that ass.
They want vacated wins and titles . . which they and all the other ABCers won't get. When you're down 24-15 to the Tar Heels in head to head wins you hope there is some avenue of balancing out that record, so, the UK folks are hoping the NCAA can help them out some here . .

I'm with ya. I have replayed the UK games last 2 minutes 10X's more than the Natty game. Of course being CHAMPS rule... but watching UK fans collective hearts sink is on a different level.
They also hoping they take some of are titles away. Unc has over taken them as the best program of all time. Take Unc 6 titles over kensuckys 8 and half of those where won in the 40s and 50s when there was like 8 teams in it and wasn't even the biggest tournament. They have won like 29 more games playing in a mid major conference. Unc has more final fours owns them in the head to head and has just as many tournament wins.

Clearly the Ky fans threats to the ref, their actions way over the top and should be punished by law enforcement, very glad we have never gone to such a low level of actions.
But folks, much of this thread finds our fans laughing at Ky fans as a whole for their not being able to let go of the fact they lost that game when Luke's shot went in. They blame the refs for that loss, they can not allow for the fact that we won it based on how our guys played, it had to be the refs that cost them the game and they just can not move past that and it is funny right, and we enjoy that right, it puts a smile on our faces doesn't it?

I never posted once about refs causing us to lose any game ever! I have noted discrepancies and really bad refs/calls before many times, however. I do not believe refs caused our Natty loss either; I believe it was a combination of poor defense in the last 4.7 seconds; multiple boneheaded mistakes on our part; missed opportunities/shots to close out the game; and a great shot by a great kid! The bogus charge call on Strickland and the traveling no-call on Webber were worse than anything that happened in the Natty!
For these reasons, I believe I can continue to poke fun at idiots like Kentuck and Moo fans when ever their delusions get in the way of their common sense! (provided they have any)

No one shouild have a problem with uk fans not liking the way Higgins calls their games per se, since they can make a fair point that historically there is a significant difference in outcomes. There are several programs and coaches who can tell you without bias they have a bad history with certain zebras. We certainly do and UNC fans shouldn't be ashamed to say it... and our coaches will privately say the same.
The REAL issues here are:
1. Did Higgins actually affect the outcome of that particular game negatively for them?
The answer to that as we have noted ITT is a flat NO, The fouls were even and foul trouble hit both teams, and theirs hurt arguably more because their two most important freshmen committed freshman fouls ($1 to Stilman White). AND Roy simply managed his foul trouble better than Cal did, i.e., Cal got his ass outcoached.
2. The elephant-in-the-room issue --- how fans actually conducted themselves?
The real issue here is that there are so many uk fans who are so unhinged that they would harass a ref to the point of ruining his business and in some cases, making terroristic threats. The fact is that UNC fans could actually legitimately point to Michael Stephens' antics last season as a big reason for that Nova loss, and it is fair game to say so. But was Stephens attacked beyond his role as referree by UNC fans like Higgins was by uk fans? Thankfully and appropriately, the answer is NO.
Dave, I love ya bro but I was really hoping this thread would proceed without that false equivalency. Criticizing refs within their professional capacity is absolutely appropriate because there has to be some accountability within their professional capacity. The line gets crossed when it goes beyond that.
Our coaches and players were not happy that Stephens was on the crew last year and they all were well aware of his impact. And I have heard rumors (which I suspect are true) that Roy let some folks in charge of officiating assignments know about it afterward (which would explain why Stephens only got assigned to one inconsequential UNC game this season until the Final). If true, that is the right way to handle it as a coach. Again, the difference here would be that Roy waited and vented privately to the authorities, whereas Cal not too subtly called out Higgins publicly in the heat of the aftermath of the loss. Even with that, ultimately uk fans ought to have more damned sense than to go full nut-job.
gary, it really is not such a false equal, the point I made after we lost in 2016 was not false, at some point the ref blame game has to go and the losing side realize it does not allows go like you want. The blame the refs deal got old after that 2016 natty game, no our fan base was not nearly as looney as that Ky fan base is showing to be but even still, win with class and lose with class, blaming the refs is not an example of that. Sorry, not intended toward you or anyone else in particular, just in general terms, the way the game is called is just a part of the game that at times has to be over come with play.

C'mon D. Nobody (well, nobody sane anyway) confuses UNC fans then with the unhinged uk fans now.
I'll take it one more step: Getting called out (in a civilized way) is an important step in accountability, and I thoroughly believe that had a positive impact on THIS seasons Natty game. First, I think it was apparent his being frozen out of UNC games this season sent a message, and when Stephens did make a couple of boner calls, Mike Eades (of all people) gave us make-up calls. Why? I don't know, but make no mistake, Stephens' rep preceeds him vis-a-vis UNC --- this ain't stuff that just UNC fans talk about. Refs are human and they read as well.
As for "how things look", well the ultimate proof there is in the proverbial pudding. UNC fans were not alone in recognizing Stephens' shenanigans (and frankly unprofessional behavior) in 2016. In contrast uk fans are pretty much on an island with this UNC game. Yeah, they have a history with Higgins but they were barking up the wrong tree back in March.
One last thing: At several points during the nova game my crew (only one of whom is a UNC fan) were commenting "Stephens is just killing you guys". In contrast, in this year's Natty game during a time-out late the conversation was about how there were a lot of whistles but win or lose, thus far it's at least been called pretty straight-up. There was no reason for either Zaga or UNC to think the outcome was swayed by one-sided officiating. And ultimately enough shots fell the right way for us and no zebra intervened with a critical boner. The game was decided as it should have been. And BTW: I for one had no issue with the number of whistles --- it was a physical game and the fouls were there by both teams. Just call it even and I'm good.
