9/11/2001

One of those dates you remember exactly where you were. And I agree, where did 17 years go?

It was my junior year of college, and remember it like it was yesterday. So sad.

I worked for Merrill Lynch then and lost colleagues I spoke to almost daily at Cantor Fitzgerald who did our bond pricing, etc. I will never forget that day.

I heard on news today that we will be sending soldiers to Afghanistan that were not born when 9/11 happened and will be fighting other not born either. Eerie this a a multi generational fight..

Yeah, I used to trade daily with Cantor's Treasury desk back in early 90s. Horrible. Several of my friends working on NYSE floor that morning can't talk about that day without tearing up. One of them was in the tower catching up on paperwork when the others called him to meet for breakfast. He left his paperwork and met them instead of staying and then went to work on exchange floor instead of going back to the office. He and I were sitting at Astros game a couple of years ago and he was literally bawling telling me the story.

Long story but I was actually on my way into Accenture's Atlanta office after week-long vacation to quit that morning. I got there and saw what was going on and decided not a good time to quit. On the way home, the MARTA train was as somber as a funeral home. Then about a week later, I'm staffed at a large investment boutique in Houston and now...well I'm where I am because of it.

I live literally around the corner from the WTC these days. Not a day goes by that I don't think about that day.

7th grade Spanish class for me. I remember a PA announcement that all teachers needed to report for a meeting. When our teacher got back he broke the news to us and we watched the news the rest of the day.

RIP to everyone who died that day, with the obvious exception of the sick ****s who orchestrated it.

Senior year of high school for me. Can't remember exactly which class. We basically just watched the news for the rest of the day.

Was teaching at Hobbton High School. Was a little scary when Seymore Johnson jets were scrambled just after the fact.

The town where I live has an annual observance and memorial at 8:30 am each Sept 11th. One of my staff is from Brooklyn and his uncle was a firefighter for the City of New York. His uncle was in the South Tower helping to evacuate the people. He had just assisted an elderly lady out when the tower started to collapse so he survived but only by fate.

I remember how people accused Bush of blowing those towers up in the weeks following it.

I also remember Congress meeting on the steps to pray for our country.

It was a time that I was willing to do for my country, but knew I was to old.

My blood still boils thinking about those who fell that day.

I also hate how our country has changed, and many seem to have forgot what that day felt like.

Very sad day. How soon many forget. I was on the treadmill at the gym and the whole country stood still.

i was settling a claim with an adjuster...he yelled, “are you watching this!”

i said “what?”

i immediately went to the conference room to watch...horrifying to digest, still is.

We were actually in Glacier National Park. It was weird because most people camping, etc... were without TV and internet access so they didn't know what had happened.

It was weird to see no planes in the sky for a time after that.

The day we moved to wilmington. Had to pack up and deal with all that shit while listening to the radio. We rented a truck and had helpers so we couldnt postpone it. When the first tower collapsed i pulled over in shock.

I was working as a consultant for a company in Wilmington, and actually drove down the morning of 9/11 from Greensboro. I was listening to music the whole drive and didn't catch any news until I got in the office, just after the first tower was hit. Like most, we originally thought it was a tragic accident, but then watched in disbelief (on a crappy little TV with rabbit ears) as the second tower was hit; and in horror as they both fell. It was such a surreal feeling; not knowing what might be coming next. I ended up jumping back in the car and heading home shortly afterwards; freaked out the whole way, as all I wanted to do was get back to my wife and young kids.
