9/11 - Where were you 20 years ago?

How old ARE YOU, dude??? I'm trying to understand your obsessive, misguided fear of "Communism and Socialism." It's got to be a boomer-thing, where you hid under your desks during a bomb drill as a child.

This country is so awash in "for-profit" EVERYTHING that Communism will always melt like snow on a hotplate.

And, Socialism has been in-play since the country was founded. If you're old enough to get a SS check, then you're actively participating in Socialism. Did you return all of your stimulus checks? If you didn't, then you actively participated in and openly welcomed Socialism.
the question isn't how old am I, it's 'how dumb are you?'. You're too ignorant to appreciate that the country has changed a lot, and that the change is decidedly toward a socialistic mindset. Consider for example that the darling of the liberal crowd, Bill Clinton...that's Bill Clinton, not some arch-conservative type... devoted a major part of a SOTU address warning of the dire consequences of the influx of illegal aliens at the border. Something must be done, he said, and he was doing it. That was only something like 25 years ago. Well, something has been done all tight. We have come close to just opening the border because liberal numbnuts, particularly young liberal numbnuts, and various other clueless dolts don't quite get the concept of being a nation. But that isn't all. Many want to provide them with healthcare and college educations and of course the right to vote.

We are imposing requirements on private business left and right that must be administered to employees, something that has been a relatively recent trend. When the conservative faction protests placing those and other burdens on private business, it is always pointed out that that is what socialist countries do, and they are doing just fine.

We just underwent a process of paying people NOT to work, and there was even talk of then paying them to come back to work...even while the stay-at-home dole was still being ladled out.

Those are just three examples, but there are many more that I won't waste the time and effort to present to a habitual denier..

And of course you as usual distort what's been said in order to fit your need to argue stupidly. I said we were moving toward socialism and communism, in a manner moving toward filling the void left by its collapse with the Soviet Union. I didn't imply that we were on the verge of adopting communism and I'm not afraid of that happening. I am however disgusted and sickened by twerps like you who just poo-poo the socialistic degradation of our country and pretend that the many trillions of debt we keep building on to support it is of no concern..

Now go ahead and see if you can't figure out some way to get around the facts, as you are driven to do by your wacko POV. Better yet, just STFU.

The irony of this poast is astounding.

I AM young dude. I hang out with 'the young people'. I guarantee you don't. Maybe it isn't us, perhaps you're just out of touch.
I guess it hasn't occurred to you that I could rub shoulders with the young now and rub shoulders with and BE the young then, while you can only rub shoulders with the young now. If I see one thing for sure, it's that we ain't getting any smarter. Or at least you aren't.

And I probably should add that in running a service company, I talk to a lot of younger people. Sonny.

I often think about this.

Is part of the reason we are so divided because we no longer have a common enemy? Hell it used to be universal that the PLO are awful terrorists but now you see idiots on social media saying to “free Palestine.”

Post 9/11 was pretty remarkable. I remember all of the interviews after Bush’s first pitch where lots of NYers said “I didn’t vote for him, but that’s MY guy. We are American. That’s MY President.” That type of unity was refreshing.

For most of the 20th century we had an enemy. I sorta think we need one now and not make each other our enemies. Maybe Iran needs to start being shitty.
China (CCP anyway, not the Chinese citizens): COVID, and all they are doing non-stop to infiltrate and steal our tech / military information. Plus the human rights abuses they practice in (Uyghur camps, re-education camps, torture / punishment of Muslims, non- Chinese people)

I remember being at work in a Target Corp HQ office. Some coworkers talked about a plane hitting a building in NYC - but at first thought it was no big deal because I think fairly recently before 9/11 some pilot of a small prop plane didn't know what he was doing, and crashed into a skyscraper accidentally somewhere.

A coworker originally from NYC knew a guy on the ground in Manhattan and somehow called him before they shut all the cell service down. He let me listen in: crazy the blaring of all the sirens and just extreme chaos there.

Anyone ever near Manhattan should definitely take the guided tour of the WTC Memorial. It is just amazing and so well done. Much of it is underground, around the bases / foundation of the Twin Towers. Just an amazing, educational, riveting place to visit. So many artifacts from that day (plane parts, crushed fire trucks, steel and stone foundations...) and very interesting recordings, including all the hundreds of calls they needed to make to dispatch emergency fire and police and coast guard units...from all of New York and surrounding states.

...and you can see how in some ways, Manhattan did get a bit lucky / fortunate. Retaining walls/ dams held up, that should have been destroyed, which would have caused flooding to basically put all of Manhattan under water, with a multiple of likely deaths and property loss $.

No. We will never be United against an enemy again like we were post 9/11. One party would decide the other would gain some sort of advantage by fighting it and their sheep would fall in line and dismiss it or blame the other party and their media outlets for lying about it.

that's a common enemy for sure but the divide is such that only one side seems to care about actually addressing it. When someone does, like someone named Donald for instance, a lot of people just go crazy criticizing him for doing so instead of lauding him for having some balls and foresight. and squarely facing an ongoing problem that will bite our ass severely someday.

And there are those who actually seek to benefit personally from the Chinese undermining of the U.S. We know who they are.
