Shoots 64 today in G boro

let's see what Friday and the weekend holds for the cablanasian

the man is so desperate to make the fedx cup playoff he shows up at an event he's never played in...problem is, he's gotta win or place, not just make a cut.

Sedgefield is a joke of a course for a PGA event. Anyone who makes the cut could win this thing.

so is harbor town and to an extent augusta, for different reasons though.

I have played Harbor Town and Sedgefield and walked Augusta. Sedgefield is a muni, 9 hole par 3 course compare to the other 2.

G why Augusta? Just curious. Also have you played it by chance?

yes...played it in 2000

i just don't think it's difficult, overall...they've tried to make it tougher, but everyone got mad...remember when they lengthened it, added rough, trees, new hole locations?...did z.johnson win it one year at +1???

they've realized that -15 is okay and i think the public wants that because the us open is so tough and the other two are always hit or miss.

jmo

well well well...the cablanasian follows the 64 of yesterday with a 65 today and is tied for the lead

Ratings should be very big for this event this weekend.... happy for the sponsors in G Boro

Man I love seeing Tiger at the top of the leaderboard again.

Cablanasian? Seriously? Grow up. The man's ethnicity is not even remotely relevant

Yep, 2007, and he won by two strokes.

Ya know little boy that is quite an appropriate name for you.......
I have been involved in the golf business for nearly 50 years...I really need no lectures or admonishments from individuals like you

btw genius that term is what HE used to describe his ethnicity.......... thought a self described "smart" guy like you would have known that.

The fact that you feel the need to point out his ethnicity every time you mention him says quite a lot about you. Pathetic insecure racist. The fact you've been involved in golf for 50 years could not possibly be less relevant.

You think the term "Cablanasian" is what makes you a racist? No, its the fact that you see that as the defining factor of a man who has accomplished more in a single year than you could hope to in a lifetime. I've seen you use that word to describe him every single time you post about him. It's blatantly racist, and pathetic.

Tiger winning the GGO means nothing, insofar as Im concerned. He can still play well enough to win any time he goes out, its what is between his ears that will keep him from winning another major any time soon, if ever.

No pressure to win the GGO. All the pressure in the world to win The Masters.

I disagree, 71. As a longtime competitive tournament golfer (Hooters/Nike Tour was the peak level) I can speak to the influence that confidence (and lack thereof) has to do with getting back into 'winning form' and there is a HUGE amount of pressure on Tiger (mostly from himself) to get back on top one weekend, regardless of the Tour stop. Yes there is more general pressure at a Major, even after winning 14 of them - but I think with the state of Tiger's mental and physical game right now, a GGO win would be meaningful on several levels.

Possibly, but if he wins tomorrow there will be a bunch of talking heads and internet chatter about how Tiger is back.

Winning the GGO will not indicate anything of the sort. Tiger will be back if he wins a major and not one second before.

I guess I'm different. He's clearly mixed race (same as my nephew) ...if I was in his shoes and took the liberty of referring to myself in this way in front of the entire world, I wouldn't get upset when folks used that word in the future to describe my "race."

It's not like he called himself a n***** on Oprah and then folks started calling him that. Lighten up Francis.

Dude, he referred to himself as cablanasian when asked directly about race, not as another term of familiarity and endearment which he prefers. And its not about identifying TW by saying he is mixed, cablanasian or whatever, this is about calling Tiger "The Cablanasian" as the only form of reference. That is purely racist, whether that was the intent or not, and I dont think it was intentional.

I thoroughly dislike Tiger and its is only because of the way he has historically conducted himself on the course and in press conferences and interviews.

But this thread is not about Tiger's race, it is about golf. Bringing race into the conversation is unecessary at best and is not funny or cute.

I have met and played golf with Tiger, he's about as self-deprecating as they come. I would bet everything I own that he would read this thread, shrug and say "Nah, that's what I am, no big deal." Without a hint of racism I would use that term to describe his race to someone. A lot of folks assume that all minorities are super sensitive to anything that can be interpreted as "racism" ....Tiger, in my experience, is not that way and he's proved that over and over with the media through the years.

Here we go again. Some liberal calling another a racist on a message board where they cannot back it up. Anybody else getting tired of this? I thought name calling was against the rules?

You mean you met and played golf with The Cablanasian.

Think about it for a second- would you tell this same story to some casual friends at a restaurant and instead of calling him Tiger, calll him the Cablanasian?

And when one of your friends said "who or what is the Cablanasian?", you would reply "Well, thats how Tiger Woods described his race when on Oprah so that's what I call him now."

That seems fine to you?

Surprised by 71's sensitivity over something so trivial. Not surprised by uncboy's sensitivity to something so trivial.

Who gives a shit? What a stupid thing to care about.

Here's my position: we, as WASP males (which is probably everyone ITT), get accused, as a group, of being racist on a fairly regular basis. I cringe when someone brings race into the conversation where it is completely unneccessary. We are talking about golf, for chrissake. What is the point in introducing race (white, black, cablanasian or otherwise) into the dialogue?

There are plenty of reasons to dislike Tiger. Why bring race into it and cloud the waters?

If we want people to stop with this stupid white privilege shit or talking about race all the time, then its best not to act in a manner which can be easily and understandably be perceived as racist, even if there was no racist intent.

No I wouldn't refer to him as that, I would say his name. Read my posts, I said when discussing his race, I would use the (non-racist) description that he also used to describe himself. Plain and simple. This coming from a guy who has a black daughter....not only do I try to use non-racist language, my actions speak it too.

Exactly. And what you are saying you would do is not what happened in this thread.

The word Cablanasian is not racist. Using it as a substitute for his name, and feeling the need to mention his race in every post about GOLF is very much racist. Not that hard, and it's not political correctness, its just a fact. I'm sorry you don't like having this aspect of your psyche pointed out to you but that's not my problem.
