• Carolina wins its first game of the season, 53-14, over NC A&T. The Tar Heels are now 1-1 for the season, 1-0 at Kenan Stadium. The win is Carolina’s first in four games dating back to last season.
• Larry Fedora is now 22-18 in four seasons at UNC and 56-37 overall in eight seasons as a head coach. Fedora is 4-0 in home openers at UNC.
• This was the sixth time in Larry Fedora’s four seasons that the Tar Heels scored 50 or more points in a game and the 16th game with 40 or more points. Prior to Fedora becoming UNC’s head coach, the Tar Heels had scored 50 or more points six times in the previous 18 seasons.
• The Tar Heels out-gained the Aggies, 463-273.
• Carolina quarterbacks Marquise Williams, Mitch Trubisky and Caleb Henderson combined to complete 20 of 27 passes for 248 yards and three touchdowns and rush nine times for 110 yards and two scores.
• Marquise Williams scored on an 18-yard run in the third quarter to increase the Tar Heel lead to 43-0. It was his 23rd career rushing touchdown and his first of the season. Williams extended his UNC record for career rushing touchdowns by a QB and is now tied for eighth in ACC history with Virginia Tech’s Tyrod Taylor.
• Nick Weiler made a career-long 48-yard field goal and is 3 for 3 this season. In the season opener he made a 47-yarder (his longest to that point) and a 38-yarder. The Tar Heels did not make a field goal longer than 30 yards in 2014.
• Quarterback Mitch Trubisky scored his first career rushing touchdown on a 35-yard run to give the Tar Heels a 53-0 lead.
• Carolina lost three turnovers and did not force one in the season-opening loss to South Carolina; this evening, the Tar Heels forced three turnovers and did not commit one.
• Senior linebacker Shakeel Rashad made his first career interception.
• Sophomore cornerback M.J. Stewart picked off his first pass of the season (third of his career) to set up another Carolina score.
• Red-shirt freshman tight end Brandon Fritts caught three passes for 11 yards, including a pair of short touchdown receptions. He made his first career catch on a 2-yard scoring pass from Mitch Trubisky, then hauled in a 1-yard scoring pass from Marquise Williams. Trubisky and Fritts were high school teammates at Mentor High School in Ohio.
