A teaching moment!

Thanks for posting, those videos are great. I think this years team is truly a resemblance of what Coach preaches. It is a group of unselfish and team first guys that have bought in, you could see it exhibited through as @ Archer2 said our really good passing ability and making the extra pass, diving on the floor for a loose ball and drawing charges. I love how each of our guys really tries to make everyone else around them better. You could see how the example by our Core 4 has started to trickle down, in the last few games I have seen B-Rob make two scrappy plays without hesitation in one possession, Garrison hit the deck and Andrew step in to take a charge.
It really shows something about each of our returning players to be able to already have established a connection with the new guys at this point in the year. We have seen with some teams that they can be so talented and skilled individually, but as a whole they lack that chemistry to get them over the hump, however that's not the case here. I've said this before and I will say it again, a team's chemistry on the court is not only due to how much they practice and play together, but it's also due to the connections they share off the court that lead it to be even stronger.

Said it from the beginning; this team is one we will remember with great fondness! I thought I would never like an entire group of kids like our last two years and now we have this team! They play with passion and joy and clearly love each other. This team has the perfect mix of skilled veterans and coachable youngsters.

Favorite highlight reel play was the Jalek spin move and pass to Huff for the thunderous slam!!

It's encouraging to see Jalek having more confidence with each game. We need him to be a big contributor once the conference season begins.

Who set the tone for this teams play? May I introduce you to Marcus & Brice. Team 1st who gave it all, just came up one shot short of an NCAA Championship. Berry and Theo have carried it on in fine fashion, as im sure Luke and Kenny will do the same. Blessed to be a Tar Heel!

Amen, Mike. We owe a huge debt of gratitude to those two who were the foundation for last year's team as well as this one. But then again, that's ever as it has been for the almost 6 decades I've been blessed to be a UNC fan. The new guys stand on the shoulders of the great ones who preceded them. They in turn, add their own legacy to the collective legacy and enrich it even further.

Well said.

I agree with all that has been said, and:

There is another subset of the Family represented recently by D. Noel, J. James, K. Meeks, and L. (Bird) Maye! These are the guys that were doubted and had obvious deficiencies coming in. They worked their tails off and eventually contributed to UNC success! I think peeps like K. Williams, Brooks, Manley, Huff, and J. Felton are learning the lessons of hard work/toughness and skill development!

Dadgum straight it is a GDTBATH!

Totally agree, great point. What do each of those guys have in common- they are TEAM guys!!! Each of those guys were also very humble guys as they trusted in Roy and his plan for them while also never putting themselves and their ups and downs in the way of the team. They are true Heels because they only wanted to benefit the team anyway the could and definitely did.

Kennedy will always hold a special place in my heart. All that he went through at Carolina, from having to losing weight and committing himself to it and to getting himself to into such a great conditioned state from where he was as a freshman who had to do the mile run over a dozen times. Him ultimately being able to overcome all that and being one of our most important pieces of last years run definitely shows something about who he is. That final four performance vs Oregon that he put can only be described as remarkable and all came together with that beautiful rebound. That play always makes me think of his time at Carolina because if you look at it closely that in order to get that rebound he had to battle two players to get it, it wasn't just handed to him and just like his experience at Carolina he had to work hard to get where he was and through the process he never gave in. He was determined and came out on top, the only way imaginable- a Champion.

You guys know me I love adding videos, these final seconds are just too good not to relive. Take a close look at Kennedy's miss and the way he crashed the glass, if not for Theo tapping it out there, which was one "Heel" of a play Kennedy may have very well gotten it himself. Wow, I can't believe I never realized that, that just goes to show you how badly he wanted this game and how he evolved into such an amazing player. And it was only fitting for him to seal the Natty with a huge block and a great heads up steal.

I agree with everything you said about Meeks. He will always be one of my favorite Tar Heels. If you ever watch old youtube videos from his freshman and sophomore years, it's amazing to see how much his body changed over his four year career. He knew is height and conditioning were serious issues, and worked extremely hard to get in better shape. He deserved to end his Tar Heel career as a national champion.

Let's not forget what he looked like in High School! Meeks worked his tail off just to be worthy to sit on UNC's bench! Then he worked everything else off until he became an integral cog in a well-oiled machine that won the Natty!

Flash forward to another young man who peeps think shouldn't have been a Tar Heel! Who worked his tail and everything else off to be worthy of the honor AND wellll lookie here....became an integral cog in a well-oiled machine that won the Natty and now is the freakin' man on a team that is in the top 5 and could make a third Final Four in a row! Only a Tar Heel could go from Tar Heel fans saying he shouldn't be on the team to national commentators calling him the best player on the team! Bird is a direct legacy of the Meek's example! Who will follow Bird? (Huff, Manley, Brooks?)

^Yessss, the young bigs certainly have a great person to follow in Luuuke!!

And I think Andrew Platek is already following in those footsteps. He is not only a kid that fans doubted, but also another coach. I absolutely love how he is making that coach bite his words everytime he steps on the court. Well Roy believed in him, "He doesn't have to play for you, he has to play for me."

The kid has really commited himself to playing hard and with a purpose on the defensive end and he is already reaping the benefits of it by earning great minutes off the bench. How many freshman are able to understand what little things (making the extra pass, keeping good spacing, making sure he boxes out his man and playing some really good in your face D) that need to be done in order to earn playing time. You can see him getting better and better everytime he plays and his confidence keeps going up leading him teammates to trust him more. He totally fits into the unselfish and team first mentality of this team. We are also starting to see what he can do on the offensive end too, the kid is a shoooota!!
This kid is going to be awesome for us in another year or two, he's going to be like the way we talk about Luke and Kenny now. Mark it down.

Love Roy's message to the guys in the beginning of the video, there is no better coach out there in preparing his guys for March and building his players confidence throughout the season. I thought he did a great job of making the guys learn from the Wofford game and come out Saturday with a better focus and mindset. I really liked his approach of having the guys look at the full game film in order to get them to clearly see the areas that needed improvement, which is only going to make them better down the road if they can learn from the game and build on it in a positive way.
Can't wait for ACC play, really believe that our guys are going to come out ready to go!

The infectious joy we play with is awesome to watch! I'm looking at CJ and he is doing everything a true Tar Heel would! He fights hard on D, congratulates/thanks teammates, makes the extra pass, and sinks the 3 when it flows from the O! He looks like he has always been Family!

Why would anyone want to leave that locker room? We will be a problem in the NCAA!

Wake is a good ACC opener, a game we really need to win if we want to win the ACC regular season.

I agree Archer. It is a big game for us to keep our confidence up, start the ACC season off on the right start and let the rest of the ACC know that the Smith Center is our home and it's gonna be a dog fight every time you step on the floor. I really expect our intensity to be at a high level and Cam to have a really big game as he plays more minutes, and gets more comfortable operating in our offense. As @ TPFKAPFS said, Cam really shows great character off the court and is working extreemly hard to get back to 100%, once he does look out!
I just finished watching the replay of Wake vs Tennessee, I noticed that Wake does has some length to them and I believe two 7 footers that get good minutes. They put Tennessee in a lot of pick and role situations consistently throughout the game, so I expect our defense to be very active on Saturday which I know they will be up for the challenge. The two I say to watch are Woods and Crawford (had 22 against us last year), Woods played well in the first half scoring 14 points, but only had 4 in the second half and Crawford was really made a non factor the whole game, but is experienced and has played well throughout the year, Tennessee just did what they do by getting physical and shut him out completely. The Wilbekin kid is also a tough player too and likes to drive and absorb contact. In saying this I fully expect our perimeter boys in Joel and Kenny to be locked in and let Wake know it with some hard nosed disruptive in your face D. I also see us having an advantage and winning the battle on the boards, Wake has not been a good rebounding team up to this point and by using this to our advantage we can get some extra offensive opportunities.

I'm also going to be at the game which is another reason that I expect a W because frankly I'm gonna bring them some Good Luck as I wear my National Champs hat and also because as we know Wake is Fake!!

Indeed. BTW, you're one of my favorite posters, knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and polite. Keep posting, buddy.

Thanks brother I appreciate it, you’re also one of my favorite posters too. I think you can agree that there is nothing better than talking about our Heels and being able to share that love with others who feel the same way. It is just a “dadgum” awesome feeling living in Blue Heaven!!

When you guys agree with me, you're both some of my favorite posters! When you disagree....well

I'm going to the game too and I hope we take no prisoners and put the fear back into the ACC! Play our game and give good effort and should be fine.

Same to you, I enjoy your posts too brother, you’re also one of my favorite posters. Hope you enjoy the game. I actually just met Manley on Franklin Street, such a nice kid. I talked to him for a few minutes, took a picture and asked him to have a big game tomorrow, so when he gets a double double you’ll know why. It’s great to have such nice kids representing our program.
