ACC - Big Ten Challenge - Who Ya Got?

Two games tonight. Both home games for the ACC teams.

Virginia (6-0) vs Wisconsin (3-3) 7 PM ESPN2

Syracuse (5-0) vs Maryland (6-1) 9 PM ESPN2

Both ACC teams are favored.

Wisconsin has a bad record, but all the losses are against quality teams (Xavier, Baylor and UCLA). UVa has beaten a couple of teams that might make the NIT. Wisconsin is the toughest team they have faced. Figures to be a very deliberate game. UVa is dead last in tempo (#351) while Wisconsin is only slightly faster (#332).

Maryland lost to the Bonnies. OTOH, Cuse has only played creampuffs. Home court advantage may be what decides this one.

Pomeroy's projections have the ACC winning 8-6. But a number of those games are projected as really close.

Judging from recent history, it's hard to bet against the Big Ten. But maybe this year the ACC will eke it out.

I thought both teams just looked bad. So many missed layups, dunks, wide open shots, etc. Not as bad as the UVA/Wisconsin game but it was still pretty hard to watch.

Back in Dean's days I didn't mind slower games. Usually that meant you could watch the strategy unfold. But that is less true with slower games these days. Or so it seems to me.

Wisconsin / UVA was a bad matchup for entertainment value. Both teams are more geared for defense and low scoring.
