I'm bored. This post was partially prompted by the question of whether a Clemson national championship is good or bad for UNC recruiting.

Looks like Miami and VA Tech have had the best recruiting classes and yet?

Virginia ought to be better based on this as well.

This yr's remnants from '11 were guys that had redshirted. I think there were just 4 on the team - Marquise, Romar, Turner, Smiley.

Did you use the Rivals point system or the average stars ranking? To me, average stars is much more informative (minus, of course, the fact that star ratings are subjective and not always right) since it offsets the problem of different numbers of recruits in each school's class.

ETA: A quick check tells me you used the default Rivals points ranking system. Our rankings are actually better most years if you use the average stars ranking system, probably because of our small class sizes due to sanctions.

Ranking by average stars, when you average our ranking from 2010 to 2015, it improves from 30 (points ranking) to 24.6

Yeah just discovered that. I ranked us the other way above and appended it to my post. Interesting stuff IMO

Average stars isn't a very nuanced approach. The class rankings are based on total points, which take into consideration the Rivals Ratings that subdivide each star rating (e.g. a 3-star can have a 5.5, 5.6, or 5.7 Rivals Rating). The class rankings also include bonus points for Rivals 250 players. And maybe most importantly, the class rankings only include the 20 highest-rated recruits from each class. That tends to negate the differences between schools who sign large classes and those who sign small ones. Anyway, I wasn't trying to put a ton of thought into it, just throwing something out there.

LOL I wasn't accusing you of lazy stat-gathering brutha man. I was just trying to provide a different perspective.

Good point on the Avg Stars System not taking into account that not all 3-stars are created equal, nor are all 4-stars. Overall though, I like looking at the default Rivals ranking and the avg stars ranking.
