ESPN's David Hale

He names Clemson's Watson, FSU's Cook, Miami's Kaaya, He also notes Hood and Louisville's Lamar Jackson (lots of flash and lots of inconsistency to overcome).

And then there is this paragraph: "While Hood was exceptional last season, his new quarterback, Mitch Trubisky, might be an interesting off-the-board name to watch. North Carolina’s offense offers QBs the opportunity to post eye-popping numbers, and with a receiving corps that is as deep as any in college football, Trubisky won’t lack for weapons."

hardest short paragraph that guy ever typed! dspn.....I bet he hated making that admission but I'd sure love to have Hood and Trubisky in the mix.

You obviously don't read much David Hale. He's more than fair to UNC. He was one of the few national writers last year making the argument that UNC's SOS was no worse than a P5 team that played an FCS team and an FBS bottom-dweller, as many P5 teams did.

I would say he had a little crush on us. His weekly game picks were almost always UNC and when the ESPN ACC blog staff did those articles where each of them had to make their cases about a particular team or game he was always on the pro-UNC side. Often times on his own.

Just let him run with it RH; I gave up trying to explain to folks why calling ESPN 'dSPN' makes them look dumber than the offspring of a UK fan and a Wolfie fan.

Dang '11 thanks...and thanks RH, no I don't read Hale.
Since ESPN reassigned Heather Dinich a few years ago, their coverage of UNC football has improved by leaps and bounds. Mostly we get Andrea Adelson or David Hale writing about the Heels. Both of them are very thorough and very fair in their writing. Can't ask for much else. I encourage you to give them a try.

What you "said" is of no importance. But your response clearly shows a great deal.
If you think ESPN has an agenda to pump up Duke sports, especially at the expense of Carolina sports, then you are extremely naive, and that's the nicest word I can use. I'm not going through the laundry list -- again -- of all the reasons disproving this stupid theory y'all have over on Radar.

ESPN sucks but it's because of their shoddy journalism, and overly PC crap like Outside The Lines. They pump up teams/programs that will get them views/clicks. They pump up Duke because Duke is good and has a lot of fans - they do the same for UNC - and for the entire SEC. I can't blame them for that. It was funny watching them back pedal so damn quickly when they titled that Jeremy Lin article "A chink in the armor". That was classic.

That article came out when I was taking an "Ethics of Journalism" course at UNC my senior year. Naturally, we had a class discussion on it. Multiple people in my class said they didn't get why the phrase was even used because they had never heard the expression "chink in the armor" and didn't know what it meant. My jaw hit the floor. Like, did you live your whole life in a bubble? Other people in the class had no clue that "chink" was a pejorative for Asians. I was equally dumbfounded with those folks.

I'm not football only as some fans seems to be, I enjoy ALL UNC sports, men's and women's, I do not think espn has much of anything going for them and now especially as judged by recent events over the past few days, reporters leaving and so on, Chris Berman (who cares about him, a blowhard), if you think some folks are out of line for kidding around and poking fun it is not "we" that need an adjustment. Your personal opinion is just that, your opinion, if you don't care for the phrase, fine. I guess it is okay for Jay(son) or Seth put their bias forward on said network.

Nice try, but y'all aren't joking when you talk about "dSPN." You're serious. I happen to think Jay is a good analyst. And which Seth? Greenberg? He didn't go to Duke, so yeah.
