What has Mack learned?

"I think the thing that I learned is I will never let a staff have too much control again, which is a strong statement," Brown said. "I'm the one responsible for everything that happens in football at the University of North Carolina. So I need to make those final decisions. I'll get their input. Same thing with recruiting. I'm the one that knows who fits the place better than anyone else, so I need to make those final decisions."

Another Mack quote

“We’ve got to do a great job coaching,” Brown told reporters at The Westin Charlotte hotel. “This isn’t on the players as much as it is us. There’s enough stuff there. We’ve got to develop depth and we’ve got to put the ball in the right players’ hands and we’ve got to call the right stuff on defense to help these kids.”

Mack says the onus is on him and his staff to get the job done by coaching.

That is a much needed breath of fresh air.

The ultimate praise or criticism of the team's performance lands directly at the head coach's feet. As such, he is responsible for the calls his staff make. I want the HC to accept ultimate responsibility but as they earn his trust, I expect the DC and OC to make many of the ingame calls with Mack reserving the right to overrule if he wants to.

As for having sufficient talent to win immediately, I agree. But the first part of our schedule is pretty tough with only two of the first five being games in which we'll be favored(Wake/App. State). The coaches are really going to have to coach the guys up to come out of that stretch 3-2. Personally, I think we beat the Gamecocks, Deacons, and Mountaineers. But they're certainly not givens. We have a chance to beat the Canes in Kenan if we win the TO battle. Clemson, well...

BTW, I found this change very interesting and frankly, it raises a concern for me. The team has voted to hold practice from 0800-1000 in the morning versus 1600-1800 as it has been held in the past. I certainly understand that it allows more study time for the team and gives them more free time at night, I think that's great.

My only concern is that the players may not be as acclimated to the afternoon game time heat as they would if they practiced in the afternoon.

Thoughts?
