ACC Standings... our path to the Championship

We are going to win out. Book it.
Tar Heel Mark. I believe we will come out PO'd, and intense, and especially Brice and Paige will be big in a win over an average Syracuse team.

Then we have basically a week to get ready for Duke. We are the better team, no doubt. Remember that we will have to outplay them by about 12-14 to win by 1 in their home dump.

We have NO time to feel sorry for ourselves. Just buckle up and get ready to rumble Monday night ....the LAST game for Marcus and Brice at DES Center

I could see Miami losing to ND, and UVA losing to Louisville, so to get the #1 seed in the ACCT tourney and a share of the regular season title (with Louisville who will be ineligible) we could go 1-1. Which is what I assume we'll do.

We'll probably beat Cuse by 30 on Monday since its at home on senior night, and then we'll probably lose by 3 @ Duke (we can't beat good or even decent teams on the road). Then hopefully we win the ACCT to make a 1 seed argument if there's one up for grabs.

If we go 1-1 that means dook probably has the same record, and they would have the tie breaker. Am I wrong?

If we beat syracuse and lose to duke, UL Virginia, and Duke have tiebreaker over us.

I have a real bad feeling Duke is going to win the regular season unless we beat them at HIS, really hope I'm wrong. Also have a bad feeling that they are still in play for a #1 or #2 NCAA seed if they win both reg season & ACC tourney. That would make our meltdown against them at home haunt us more than it already has. With all that said, Go Pitt!!!!

Duke is an underdog today against Pitt so just playing the odds I figured they'd lose that one. But yes, if they win out they would be tied with us and hold the tie breaker.

TEAM CONF OVERALL
North Carolina 12-4 23-6
Miami (FL) 12-4 23-5
Louisville 11-5 22-7
Virginia 11-5 22-6
Duke 10-5 21-7
Notre Dame 10-6 19-9
Syracuse 9-7 19-10

Here is the deal. UL has the tiebreaker on us. Virginia has the tiebreaker on us. We have the tie breaker on Miami.

Win both the last 2 games... win the ACC Championship. Lose 1 and we don't. It is that simple.
Let's not forget Duke. If Duke sweeps their last 3, they also are 13-5. They will have beaten us twice, beat UVa, but lost to Miami.

If we are tied for 1st place don't we get to claim a share of the regular season championship?

If UNC, Miami and UVa) finish 1-1, and we beat Duke we still are #1 (because we aren't tied with UVa or Duke and we have the tiebreaker with Miami)

If Miami goes 2-2 - which they have the best chance of doing - and we don't, Miami wins.

Virginia only wins if they go 2-0 and both UNC and Miami lose at least 1 game.

As for seeding for the ACCT, does Louisville count? I mean Lvl isn't playing, so I'm assuming their win over us won't factor into any tie breakers for seeding.

Not for seeding but for acc championship it does.

If Dook wins the Regular season in the stacked ACC this year, it will be one of if not the greatest coaching year I would have ever witnessed...

This is pure truth. Give the Rat credit, he always has his team playing better at season's end . . and he does it consistently.

Hope you were kidding. If you were, disregard the following. If not... We have one guy projected to go in the lottery, Brice at 10th. They have two, Ingram 2nd and Vanilla Whip at 15th. Why our own fans buy into the "dook only has 5 players BS" is beyond me. K's refusal to play his bench falls squarely on him. They lost to Mercer and Lehigh in the 1st round in the last 5 years as well, both 15th seeds. .

I doubt he was kidding because its accurate glad they got scratched today but they had no business anywhere in the running... a Freshmen and a 6th man last year leading them is in no way up to par with what others had coming back... I mean what if Ingram who was a five star turned out to be like Hicks who was a five star and needed time to develop , some of those guys on the bench are just not very good more of striking out on the recruiting trail than in game coaching..

2. What is the biggest thing that could hold North Carolina back come tournament time?

Katz: I still think it comes down to late-game decision-making and a punishing mentality when the game is tight.

O'Neil: Strange as it may sound -- Marcus Paige. Once the Tar Heels' biggest threat, he's now their Achilles' heel. North Carolina desperately needs Paige to rediscover his confidence and his consistency in order to win in March. It's not just the points, but the absence of his leadership that is sorely felt.

Goodman: Toughness and defense. Those are the two things that remain a question with this group. Are the Tar Heels tough enough -- and can they stop people when it matters?

Still need to win at Duke to take the championship. Too many things need to happen for us to take it and lose.
