Hey guys! You may remember me as ChapelHillMatt. I posted here for a long time. Well life got kind of busy and I kind of got away from posting on message boards. I got married and work 2 jobs so I stay pretty busy. Me and my wife have been married for 3 years and back in May we felt the Lord calling us towards adoption. We prayed about it and felt like it was what we needed to do so we started the process. A few months back we signed with an agency (Bethany Christian Services in Raleigh) and we are going through our training with them now. We are hoping to complete the home studies in the next few months and get on a waiting list towards the beginning of next year. It's a long journey but one we are excited to take. We are in the domestic infant program so basically the birth mother chooses us and we get a new born baby to raise as our own.

Like I said it is expensive, by the time the adoption is complete we'll have to pay around $27,000 so we are having to fundraise. The Lord has blessed us financially but we don't have that much money laying around haha! Our first fundraiser is selling t-shirts and thought I'd share the link here in case anyone wanted to buy one. It's a great way to be part of our journey. The shirts are not expensive and there are different styles and colors to choose from. If you feel like you want to help us that would be great but most of all we covet your prayers. Thanks!

Have you checked your employee benefits to see if they will help with expenses? A lot of companies do that now. It might be worth looking into if you haven't already.

ETA: Good luck in your journey to do this. Being a parent is a wonderful thing.

My company helps out with those type of expenses. Somewhat related - a woman at my work recently had a surrogate give birth for her. My colleague got full maternity leave and benefits as if she had given birth herself which I was surprised about.

Mine does the same as well as paternity leave. It's a really long time too. I think it's like 3 months.

I work at Lowes and UPS

Surprisingly UPS doesn't do anything for adoptee's but Lowes does have a reimbursment program but only for full timers. Since I'm part time we don't qualify for the program. There are adoption grants we are going to look into though but that can only be done after the home study process is completed.

Keep us updated on your journey and I hope it all works out for you.

I might be willing to help if you'll finally admit that you were way, way wrong when we debated who would be the better QB, RGIII or Andrew Luck.

Haha I don't think there is any doubt about that now. Who is RG3? Although Luck isn't as good as you thought he would be I'm guessing.

True. Luck did not turn out to be as good as I thought he would. I thought we were looking at the next John Elway. But in all fairness, the Colts have refused to get him a legit O-line to protect him and he's repeatedly gotten hurt because of that. Plus, the run game in Indy has been nonexistent during Luck's tenure. And throw in the coaching changes he's had to deal with and it's no surprise that he didn't reach his potential. But I might have been a little too high on him to begin with.
