I agree though no one seems to be complaining about how white males are depicted as clueless and incompetent in so many commercials today.

And they should bring the Sega ad back for Xbox or Playstation. That one was clever and no more suggestive than many other ads today.

Some of my fav courses at unc were marketing/advertising. The stuff people used to get away with is hilarious. They used to put single frames of ice cold drinks and food in movie reels. Everyones prob seen how they drew words and sexual images in ice cubes for liquor ads. They also used to put text next to womens groin area on mag covers and of course air brush the models to make them skinnier and have longer torsos.

Well a lot of commercials play off the dumb-guy-without-product vs. smart-guy-with-product dichotomy to sell whatever the ad is for.

These companies are just playing it safe. If you have the dumb guy be not white, and the smart guy be white - holy crap get ready for a brand protest and probably a lawsuit.
