37.4% of the US working age population is unemployed - another staggering record.

The BLS reports that 93,770,000 people (16 and older) were neither employed last month nor had made specific efforts to find work in the prior four weeks.

The number of people outside the workforce in July increased 144,000 over June’s record when 93,626,000 were not in the workforce.

July’s labor force participation rate however remained the the same as June at 62.6 percent. Before last month the labor force participation rate had not been that low since October 1977, when the participation rate was 62.4 percent.

The BLS reports that the civilian labor force did experience a slight uptick from 157,037,000 in June to 157,106,000 in July after the month of June saw it drop by 432,000.

While the labor participation rate remains at the lowest its been since the late 1970s, the BLS highlighted that the unemployment rate remained at 5.3 percent and nonfarm payroll jobs increased by 215,000.

Facts do NOT matter to the low info voter crowd

BTW you also should point out how pathetic the WOMEN's employment numbers are Of course it is the evil, awful, terrible Republicans who are waging a "war on women" RIGHTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!

Where IS the useful idiot Sandra Fluke??? I guess she is out buying her free birth control poor dear.

There are more than 550k fewer full time jobs than there were at the beginning of the recession in Dec 2007.

I know you guys hate to respond to Nuk's posts, but it's frightening that this thread only has 4 replies. Those are staggering numbers.

Probably because he puts a ridiculous slant on everything that makes everything out to be Obama's fault. Then he throws in some stupid play on his name (Maobama, Obozo, ect.) as if that in some way validates his point. There is no intelligent discussion to be had with him unless you consider trading insults to be intelligent.

Unemployment is lower than when he took office. I didn't vote for him and I still don't support him but it does get a little old hearing about his socialist plot to kill America from within. The historical median unemployment rate since 1949 has been 5.6%. It's at about 5.5%. Business start ups have also increased by 20%. The economy has added over 7 millions jobs since Obama took office. Can he do better? Absolutely. But lets stop pretending he's trying to kill America. Especially considering most of you should still remember the guy who came before him...

That being said, the labor participation rate is only down by about 3%. Obviously not good, but not catastrophic either.

The sky is actually NOT falling

Ahh, yes...the crafty spin of unemployment numbers that don't at all take into account the number of people that have just given up. "Americans out of work" is a much more honest and telling statistic than the cooked "unemployment" numbers. Administrations have been manipulating that number since time began. I'm surprised you still fall for it.

Do you honestly need someone to explain WHY to you? Do you need someone to explain to you what the pat range is of all these wonderful jobs he has created? Do you really?
