I am needing a software that I can put on a laptop and access all of my desktop files remotely when I travel. I would also like to be able to use it with clients who may need some quickbooks help.

Any suggestions?

If you just need access to files -- DropBox, Google Drive, iCloud...

If you need to access your computer at home, try TeamViewer or LogMeIn

If you are working with clients who use QuickBooks Desktop - I'd encourage them to migrate to QuickBooks Online. Converting the file takes about 5 minutes to be up and rolling online. Much better product and accessible anywhere.

I already use drop-box for file. Need access to actual computer. Which do you think of the 2 your recommended is better? I have heard of logmein

Considering doing over the phone "fix" for QB issues. I have not played with QB online yet so have no opinion. I know the QB for apple is not preferred.

I used LogMeIn for years, worked great between my work place and home.

thanks! I will look into the purchase (unless you get if free somewhere)

I just looked that their prices... one was $100/yr (logmein) and the other one was over $700. A bit steep for just wanting access while traveling.

Do you have a Google account and use Google Chrome? If so they have remote desktop capabilities built into the browser that seems to work pretty well.

Microsoft OS systems also have remote desktop capabilities, but are a little more difficult to set up.

TeamViewer is one we used to connect to a remote system here where I work. I set it up in no time and it works great. IIRC, when we signed up they had a "free" version, but may have changed now.

LogMeIn was always kinda clunky to me. I never liked it much.

Check out Cytrix's Go To Assist. We have a license here at work, so I have no idea what it costs, but it works well, too.

Teamviewer is free and what you should use if you are worried about difficulty setting up such things. Couldn't be easier.
