I need a Blu-Ray so figured I would just get a gaming console while I am at it. Which one do I want- Xbox or Playstation?

(enter 0910 with a picture of an Atari 2600 in 5....4.....3....2....)

I have an Xbox one, I do play games on it but I’ve always played more Madden or NBA2K vs shooter games which I play occasionally but not frequently. I don’t play as much as I used to but I do use it quite a bit for blu ray or streaming

Since you have both, how about some advice?
I tend to play the Xbox more since that's what most of friends have and the controller is a lot better (GFY @tarheel0910). I tend to be more of Xbox guy anyway though, so I'm gonna be biased. Halo was my shit in college and I've been full fledged Xbox ever since.

I play the PS4 mainly for MLB The Show. It has a lot more exclusive games as well. You can't go wrong with either. The PS4 is probably the more popular choice among the gaming community.

ETA: Xbox One X is an absolute beast (if you have a 4K TV).

My boy has an Xbox One. Right when he got his old 360 a few years ago I played this game called Darksiders. I haven't messed with any of the games in years though.

@UNC71-00 -- PlayStation 4 is better. Better "ease of use" (I've been a gamer all my life, and it's like solving long division trying to figure out how to do even basic stuff on an Xbox One), better selection of games IMO, such as MLB The Show, and just a better user experience all around. I've got some friends who are very, very hardcore gamers and have both systems and they agree PS4 is a much better system.

Plus, PS4 has cool features that enhance your gaming/use experience. I do not think XBox One lets you do much or any of the following, but please correct me if I'm wrong @coolwaterunc and @heelz2345 :

- With PS4, you can play your Spotify account through your TV, via the PS4. So if you have house guests, you can pop on your PS4, and your Spotify and play music that way, which is more convenient than using, say a Bluetooth connection from your phone, or an aux cord. Now, XBox One can do that too, but here's where PS4 has some cool advantages: say you're playing Madden but don't give af about the game's commentary/music. You can start up the game, use the PS Home button on your controller to get to your Spotify, start a Spotify playlist, and then go back to Madden. The PlayStation automatically knows to kill any in-game music so that you can hear your selected music instead, and it will soften (but not completely mute) in-game non-music noises such as commentary and sound effects. Of course, you can manually tweak these settings to your preference, but it's neat that PS4 auto does it for you.

- If you're a cord-cutter, PS Vue is a great service... for my money, better value than Sling due to its heavy assortment of sports channels (ESPN/2/U, SECN, your regional Fox Sports, NBCSN, MLB Net, NBA Net, FS1, etc.). You can stream PS Vue on anything nowadays, but if you have a PS4, it's really easy to toggle from watching TV to playing a game or listening to music.

Like I said, correct me if I'm wrong. To their credit, Xbox has done things to bridge the gap in recent years such as correcting where the annoyance where you had to pay for an Xbox Live account before you could access Netflix or a plethora of any apps. It's always been freely accessed on PlayStation. XBox has fixed that.

To my knowledge, you can’t do that on Xbox but I honestly don’t know, the apps I use it for are more video streaming so I’m not trying to do music but I could find out. And yeah PS Vue doesn’t really have an equivalent for Xbox.

I’m a little jealous of PS at the moment because they are getting an exclusive Spider-Man game that looks awesome. But I’m pretty happy with my Xbox generally speaking

I have an Xbox one that a friend talked me into getting so we could play Madden Football and other head to head games. Then he had two kids and has no time for it. So, I play in 30 minute - 1 hour spurts at most. I love the Assassin's Creed series and games like Skyrim. I don't get into the MMOs very much because I like the solo game experience and story better than mass shootouts. I enjoy driving and sports games as well.

I do still have my Atari 2600 and an Atari 800 hooked up for some retro gaming.

The Assassin's Creed games are really good. If you like those, you should check out Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and its sequel Shadow of War. Similar combat styles, but obviously very different story line.

A series I've really enjoyed in the past few years is the Arkham games, don't know if any of you guys have played them, but they are a lot of fun.

I didn't play those, but I did play the LOTR games that were tie ins for the movies, and I loved those games so much.

I played those two as well and loved them. The two Shadow games are pretty different from the movie tie-ins. For one, the two Shadow games are open world, which is pretty darn cool. There's a little bit of commonality between the combat from the movie tie-in games, but a lot of it is different.

The sequel, Shadow of War, honestly I wouldn't advise you to purchase, unless you've got a lot of free time and money to burn. I like it a lot, but it gets very grindy toward the end. The original, though, Shadow of Mordor, is fantastic. Excellent story, and really fun and enjoyable (and suspenseful) game play.

Oh, and the combat in the Shadow games is VERY similar to the Batman Arkham games.

I played the first LOTR game but not the second yet. I did enjoy the first one.

I tried Star Wars Battlefront and liked the idea, but whenever I did multiplayer missions, it was basically, spawn, run for 15 seconds and get sniped by someone on a ledge "five miles" away, then repeat. I was better at the space missions but that wasn't enough to keep me interested.
