any word if Mike Hughes will return?

J Clarke is sitting out the spring, but sounds like he will return if he can get his grades up, like Marquise did a few springs ago.

Is hughes in a similar position grade-wise or is something else going on? We're pretty thin if he is gone. Just returning Des Lawrence, MJ Stewart and Corey Bell who is small, didn't redshirt, but appeared in just two games.

Wolfolk is the only potential CB to early-enroll, so our nickel-back situation could be scary unless the rookies are stellar.

His absence isn't grade-related. He went home to deal with some personal issues. It's possible he could return to the team.

But all the rumors I'm hearing is it's not likely he'll ever be back. Take that FWIW.

It can't be over-emphasized. If a guy plays around with risky, even unlawful, behavior, he is a permanent threat to cause trouble for the program, at least by losing eligibility. Lack of character includes lack of focus required to remain academically eligible.

I hear ya Woad, but sometimes you just don't know how someone's gonna mature once they get to college. From all accounts, Hughes is from a strict discipline family. Sometimes guys/girls get to college and just become different people once they're on their own. Sometimes they become better people. You just can't even know for sure.

This is my personal opinion...no inside info other than what I know about the Hughes situation, BUT...based on that I don't see the kid coming back.

Clarke is entirely different and I expect him back in the fall. The fact he's not enrolled this spring doesn't bother me at all. In fact, it's why I expect him back.

I hear ya Woad, but sometimes you just don't know how someone's gonna mature once they get to college. From all accounts, Hughes is from a strict discipline family. Sometimes guys/girls get to college and just become different people once they're on their own. Sometimes they become better people. You just can't even know for sure.

I've seen it too - some guys were under control in high school and then go nuts in college and seriously harm their futures.
