I'd been considering the UGA game, but timing wasn't great and I decided i'd rather do @fsu . So has anyone been to a game in Tallahassee?

Is the town okay, is it good place and stadium to see a game?

From an FSU fan: There aren't a lot of stadiums that can compare to Doak Campbell in a big game. It gets loud, the Warchant gives me goosebumps and it is a tremendous atmosphere for the entire game. The cupcake games are a little more subdued but it's like that everywhere. UNC will be one of the bigger games on our Home Schedule this year so expect a racious atmosphere. As for the city of Tallahassee, the population is about 250,000 so it's plenty big. It has a lot of good restaurants around town. There is a Friday night Block Party in downtown on the Friday night before every FSU Home Game. The only thing I'd like to say is book your hotel now because if you wait you may have to get a hotel that is outside of Tallahassee around 15 to 20 miles away. You can manage that but it is much better being right in town enjoying all of the festivities.

a racious atmosphere sounds a tad worrisome.

There was a guy a while back that was putting together a blog that would have information and pointers for going to football games and visiting various college stadiums. We provided him with some great input about Chapel Hill but for some reason he never came back and gave us a URL so we could find this helpful blog.

I may be going. Never been to game game there but have been to some meetings in stadium.

Been to several there. Stadium is big and loud. Fans are very rabid but respectful. You may run into a few drunk a--holes, but you can do that anywhere. Went there as a fan of a "cupcake" team, Western Carolina and had a blast. Tailgate was great. We were one of two cars for WCU of about 100 in some ones yard about three blocks from stadium. Charged us $15 bucks and it was worth every cent. Fans were great and are some extreme partyers. To get to stadium we had to walk by about 6 frat houses and we were invited to stop and drink at every single one. I stopped when one wanted me to do keg stand with them. Had my opposing team gear on and everything. Talked to some kids at each one and they said they did this for all visitors except for fans of UF, Miami, and NCSU. They hated Chuck Amato for the poop he stirred when he left them. That may have changed since he is gone. Stadium looks great from outside and the seating area. Underneath it is definitely dated. 1940' or 50's with steel girders exposed, kind of dingy. I will say watching Chief Osceola ride in with the lighted spear gave me goose bumps. One of the great college traditions. Tomahawk chop and chant got kind of old. Bar, restaurant and shopping scene is good. Motels, better get them quick. All in all, well worth the time and effort.

Three college buddies and I road tripped to Doak Campbell in 1992 for FSU's first game against UNC as a conference foe. Left Friday afternoon, car broke down in SC, rented another car with a fake ID, and finally arrived in Tallahassee early Saturday morning without a wink of sleep.

Got to tour the locker room before the game. I tried to put a hex on Charlie Ward's equipment but it didn't do any good. Aside from my trip to Louisville in 2012, I've never been treated more hospitably by an opposing fan base. Everybody was great, except for Mike Hogewood, who didn't appreciate our (overly?) enthusiastic reaction to seeing a real-life celebrity outside the stadium before the game.
