CAROLINA NOTES
• The Tar Heels are now 10-2 overall and 6-0 at the Smith Center.
• Marcus Paige jammed his right ankle in the first half. He returned to action and also started the second half before leaving the game for good with 17:45 to play in the game.
• Carolina forced 19 turnovers and scored a season-high 31 points off those turnovers. It was the second consecutive game that the Tar Heels posted a season high in points off turnovers. UNC scored 24 points off turnovers vs. UCLA on Saturday.
• Tonight’s win was the 760th Division I win for Roy Williams. He is now 11th all-time in Division I wins. Ed Diddle of Western Kentucky is 12th with 759. Lute Olson is 10th with 780.
• Carolina shot 47.2 percent from the floor. That is the first time in six games that UNC has shot under 50 percent from the floor for a game.
• Appalachian State out-rebounded the Tar Heels, 18-16, and had a 9-5 advantage in second chance points in the first half. In the second half, UNC out-rebounded the Mountaineers, 31-13, and had a 19-6 edge in second-chance points.
• Carolina scored 94 points, the fifth time in 12 games the Tar Heels have scored 90 or more. UNC is averaging 91.3 points in its last six games.
PLAYER NOTES
• Marcus Paige had nine points and one assist in 17 minutes due to the jammed right ankle. The assist was his 500th, making him the 12th Tar Heel to reach 500 career assists.
• Paige also reached 1500 career points (now has 1504). He passed Tyler Zeller for 27th in UNC history. Zeller had 1,501 points from 2008-12. Scott Williams is 26th with 1508.
• Paige is now the second Tar Heel (with Jeff Lebo) and the 12th player in ACC history with at least 1500 points, 500 assists, 150 steals (170) and 200 three-pointers (241).
• Brice Johnson led all scorers on both teams for the third game in a row. Johnson was 9 for 12 from the floor and 4 for 4 from the line and finished with 22 points and rebounds. It was the second straight game and third time in the last five games that he missed a double-double by a single rebound.
• Johnson has nine career 20-point games, three in the last three games (25 vs. Tulane, 27 vs. UCLA and 22 vs. Appalachian State).
• Johnson tied the all-time UNC record for most consecutive field goals made with 16. He made his last 11 shots from the floor against UCLA and his first five attempts this evening. Brad Daugherty also made 16 in a row over a two-game period against UCLA and Iona to begin the 1985-86 season.
• Sophomore point guard Joel Berry II had his first career double-double with 11 points and 11 assists. The 11 assists are the most by a Tar Heel since Kendall Marshall had 11 vs. Creighton in the second round of the 2012 NCAA Tournament in Greensboro.
• Sophomore wing Justin Jackson had his second career double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
• Junior forward Isaiah Hicks scored in double figures for the fourth time in as many games. Hicks had 12 points and tied his season high with six rebounds.
• Senior forward Joel James made his third straight start and had matched his season high with seven rebounds. He has 27 rebounds in the last five games (5.4).
• Freshman forward Luke Maye scored a season-high seven points and matched his season high with five rebounds.
