Love the passion!

It's happened before, Billy ... just not nearly as much as vs Mooooooo. Growing up in the middle of this 3 way rivalry, our ownership of State washes the fact that dook beats us 2/3 of the time. I despise them every bit as much as I despise dook.

Over the long haul, better coaching wins out in rivalries ... see Dean vs K 1982 to 1997 and Roy vs Moooo 2003 to present day - and of course the obvious, K vs Roy.

What I wouldn't give to see that same joyful passion after a dOOk game . .

It seems like if every opponent was dressed in State jerseys, we'd go undefeated and cut down the nets, and if every opponent was dressed in dook jerseys, we'd go winless. Hopefully the latter tide turns next weekend.

I think this is pretty accurate. By that logic, if K is a better Coach than Roy, then Dean was a better Coach than K. Agreed?

That's exactly what I meant by "Dean vs K 1982 to 1997" ... Dean was clearly a better coach than K (in that series specifically).

Roy is no quitter. Why I haven't piled on Roy after the Dook game. But it's why I have been critical of some of the players. I can deal with mistakes and Roy made some in the Dook game. But I don't accept poor effort and some of the players showed terrible effort in that game. They acted like they were playing BC and not Dook.

Hyperbole much?
Actually, it's pretty accurate. The W/L records speak for themselves.

I hate Moo even more than I hate Duke but to me, our dominance of Moo can't offset our ineptitude against Duke. The Blue Devils are a perennial Top 10 nationally relevant program. Losing to them so often is way worse for Carolina basketball than the occasional slip-up to Moo would be. JMO.

I don't think a coach having your number necessarily means you're a bad coach, matchups and style often are the deciding factor in games. K has Roy's number, but Roy beats Izzo everytime we play even our 2010 team beat MSU when they were a Final Four team. Izzo gets the best of Tony Bennett because they play a better version of UVA's style. As good as everyone thinks K is his record vs Dean was abysmal

Also, rivalries tend to fluctuate. Dook has gotten the better of us lately, but it wasnt that long ago that we were the same way. 05 to 09 we dominated Dook

That's right, it's cyclical and will eventually swing back in UNC's favor. However, I don't think Cow College will be catching and overtaking Roy's teams anytime soon. THAT is utter domination!

It can't happen soon enough.

In all seriousness, Dean admitted in a book that early on he put too much worry into the dook game (especially at dook) for a long time due to its significance, to the point it may have affected how he coached against them --- and that once he put that aside things went better. In some ways K was a catalyst in that Dean had absolutely no use for the Rat and his shortcuts whatsoever. It was obvious Dean thoroughly enjoyed whuppin' him and usually did.

Roy has a State-hate going back to his childhood and he absolutely relishes beating them (and that transfers down to our players), but I see something different against dook. As much as I love Roy he would do well to take Dean's example and stop getting the yips against the dookies. It's time for Ol Roy to start viewing dook and K with the same disdain he holds for the Pack, get the team riled up and just go over there next week and unleash a curb-stompin' on their sorry a$$es.

I'm not always happy with some of Roy's in game coaching calls but there is no question he is thru and thru Carolina, anD I know he hates losing more than and one of us could ever fathom

If I counted right, Roy's UNC teams were 7-5 against Duke through 2009 and are 3-11 since then.

We need no worse than a split with them this season and to win the tie-breaker, if there is one.
