Yes I realize it is a early opportunity to play against live bodies instead of teammates but the problem I see is the level of competition. Johnson C Smith is projected to finish last in their league which again brings up my point about competition…

Looking at some of the opponents that Carolina has played in these normally instate teams you wonder if the reason for this games are to promote these squads that might not have the opportunity to play a high level team because of the league they are in.

Now on the other hand this kind of game lets the freshmen regardless if it ends up being a 30-40 point blowout feel the thunder of coming out of the tunnel in front of a appreciative crowd and getting their time on the court.

It's basically a dress rehearsal. I think it's good to get the reps in before a game that counts in the standings. It's not like a mandate by the league or anything (like NFL, where preseason is done for financial reasons), so If Hubert and co didn't think it was worth it I assume they wouldn't schedule them.

Leaky sat out the Blue/White game.

Love/Puff sat out the Live Action game.

Everyone trying to get healthy for the regular season.

Absolutely worth it! UNC has a history of scheduling teams in-state that other programs are afraid to play! It gives the team some publicity and gives us a chance to experience playing against someone other than ourselves. The team gets to work on things against live opponents like Zone O; Man D; our transition; our secondary; chemistry, rotations, and our bench players get a taste just in case they are needed later! The great news is that UNC chooses the programs based on connections. Johnson C Smith was where Hubs' parents attended. They also play in other teams' gyms to help them at times, especially if a Tar Heel is on the coaching staff!

Frankly, after watching the clips and checking the box score, I'm a teeny-tiny bit worried.

Not a lot, because we have a great team and they'll get it together. But against competition like this there are a few disturbing stats.

Nance shot only 1-5 from deep. I'm not expecting him to be Brady Manek, but still...

Armando went 6-9. Fine percentage, but why did he miss any inside shots at all. Seriously.

There were also a bunch of excellent stats. But there should have been against this foe.

Yeah, absolutely worth it for all the reasons named. You do want your team to get the feeling of winning, winning is in a way addictive.

Absolutely worth it, especially when dook loses their game LOL...
How be it,it was against a much better school
OK, so not taking up for duke but Houston is considered to be one of the top 5 teams in the country and personally I think they are one of the top 2 teams in the country, UNC being the other. I don't know that duke should be in the top 10 right now. Kelvin is doing one heck of a job!

Mentioned that on another tread, when it happen. Houston has a tremendous team, and will probably be in the final four next year, the juror is still out on Punk. Even though they will always suck !!!!!

Mr. Foreman do you have a verdict?
Yes, your honor-we the jury, after careful consideration, have determined unanimously that:

PUKE SUX!

In addition they are sentenced to suck for Life without the possibility of parole!

I don't like facing 6 straight creampuffs to open the season (including the exhibition game). The first 5 at home. Then some serious competition on the road for, what, 4 straight games?

I'd rather ramp it up steadily than go from easy at home to brutal on the road.

But it is what it is.

We're good enough and experienced enough to win those tough road games, but it could be a rude shock for our new guys. And that sudden shift in the talent we face makes it a little less likely that we go 40-0.

Still optimistic, though.

I put in a call to Kentuck fans so I could find the right tattoo artist!

I would be a bit more worried too if our team wasn't so loaded with talented experience! It still is a crapshoot because so much of it is luck but I like going into a season with a legitimate shot at greatness! A few close losses in that meat grinder portion of the schedule would only increase our chance at the FF IMO!

I guess it is worth it just for all involved to practice the game day things that need to be take care of both from a team, and facility, standpoint. The game itself? Probably not. Everybody seems to bring in a school that is destined to lose by 40-50 points. The team would probably get more out of an intrasquad scrimmage from a basketball standpoint. But it is what is done. Doesn't excite anyone that I am aware of.

Duke/Houston was a scrimmage....Duke played its lone exhibition game against Fayetteville State last night, last years CIAA conference champs...82-45

Puke peeps came down with an extreme case of the willies! The combo of Houston's bully boys + The unpredictable expressions of the Face caused psychotic breaks!

I am excited to watch my Tar Heels play so I don't care who the opponent is!
