go back and watch the last 6-8 minutes of the game and watch Sean May and Brad Fredrick’s reaction to some of Caleb’s shots and misses. There’s trouble in paradise friends. It appears at least a few of the assistants are less than thrilled with Caleb’s shit show. I can’t for the life of me wrap my mind around Hubert’s management of this team, specifically Caleb Love. We got a young man who has played terribly for most all of the season and we are 25ish games in and he’s still taking 25+ shots and shooting less than 30%.

I noticed that also. One has to feel that the staff is frustrated with his play. But I guess either Hubert is hanging on to the possibility of him having one of those nights where he goes white hot. But those times have been few and fa between this year. Yet when he hits one three. As soon as he gets the ball on the next possession he is automatically going to jack up something from 30 ft plus as he thinks he has reached game changer stage.

But we will probably have to deal with this again next year. Caleb has been auditioning for the NBA since the day he got here. Unfortunately for him, the NBA isn’t as impressed as he thought they would be. Word has it that word from the NBA was that he wasn’t in the top 40 prospects and would be a lower 2nd round pick, if drafted at all.

So Love has no bargaining chips. For good, Davis needs to make a major example of him. Bench him, Tell him that either he starts mastering what he needs to, or the team plays fr the future with him not playing at all.

Totally agree, but why do we clearly see this as the only viable option but HD and the coaching staff don't ? And this should have been done a very long time ago. This concept should be central to the team culture: there are exactly 5 players on the court at a time, and each player must justify their existence on the court by first and foremost playing solid defense and then contributing their fair share to the offense in an efficient manner. If they can't -- and Love hasn't for a very long time -- they should be forced to sit on the bench and let the next best player have a shot. Benching Love may be in his best interest, as he would stop what he is doing and start practicing and playing like the NBA player he would like to become.

The problem is not Love, it's the coaching staff, as they enable him to continue consuming over 30 minutes of PT each game while continuing to play poor defense and inefficient offense. Even Calipari would not keep giving Love so many minutes each game, and Pitino would have him permanently on the very end of the long bench.

I wonder if it is "the staff" or just the head coach. Last night wasn't the first time I've seen negative reactions from the assistant coaches. I would suspect that assistants have spoken with HD (probably about a lot of things), but in coaching hierarchy the head coach has the final say. I don't know. Just wondering.

We have less talent for winning without Caleb. But would the team rise to the challenge - as a team! - if we didn't have him?

Three main choices:

1. Stick with the status quo and hope for a repeat of last year's surge.

2. Coach better - especially coach Caleb better.

3. Sit Caleb for a few games and see what the rest of the team can do.

We have a lot of coaching experience on that bench. But are they a good coaching team? Do they play as a team any better than our players do? Is there someone who needs to be replaced or benched?

I remember a few times when Dean turned to other coaches - John Thompson comes to mind - when he was having trouble getting his team to perform the way they should.

Does Hubert need to "call a friend"? If so, whom should he call?

it's a strange dynamic for sure. I just don't recall seeing coaches react by throwing their hands up in the air or burying their heads into their hands so much, specifically reacting to the shot selection of one player, while the outcome (him staying on the floor and continuing to take terrible shots) remains the same.
