I bet you right now Fed and Kap wish they had played Hatton and Sweet some last year as they were ready and were on the 2 deep but they decided to redshirt them. As Dalton has said and I think it's pretty obvious there is only so much practice time especially after fall camp that the redshirts are really getting and it's no where near like actual game experience. Hopefully they will perform ok and that not playing them last year won't hurt us this year but it definitely appears they will be our 2 top reserves this year and Hatton may start. The more I look and think about it redshirting kids that are physically ready to play just to hope it matters in 5 years is just crazy especially with all the concussion and injuries pushing kids to leave for pros after 3 to 4 years or realizing they aren't going to be good enough for pros and saying 4 years is enough and not coming back for 5th year. Hatton whether he starts or not is pretty assuredly going to start next couple years at center so just like Bodine I don't see him staying around a 5th year. And Sweet I would think will move to RT next year and start and then following year move to LT after Spain leaves so he very well could decide not to stay for his 5th year too.

Guess I've always been in the redshirt the O-line guys if you can to maintain a veteran O-line. But you make a good point. Maybe that's changing and guys aren't going to stay that long anyway.

Haven't seen that on a wide scale yet but sometimes you just need to get guys some experience on the field.

I just think with guys coming in much more advanced physically that getting your top guys/eventual starters experience right away is better as they probably aren't going to stay 5 years anyways. That gets them ready to play heavily their 2nd year if necessary as redshirting really just helps them physically but if that's not really needed it seems sort of a waste. Let the guys who need to get bigger and need more time to adjust redshirt and then if needed you have them as an experienced 5th yr players and if not needed they just graduate and leave after 4 like Holts. I just think we aren't recruiting 4 and 5 star guys year after year so we need our top recruits playing right away for experience and get them in the rotation to play/start quicker if necessary. Plus if you can figure out your starter types quicker maybe you realize quicker the Oline guys you can really count on and if hit on a lot maybe you don't always need to grab 4 to 5 Olinemen every year and can save some for say the Dline.

There are enough scholarships for both the O-line and D-line. Redshirting O-linemen still makes a lot of sense when you have a bunch of veteran O-linemen which is what you want. That being said, we're going to lose a lot this year and next and I'd expect a bunch of the younger guys to see the field a lot this year in preparation for that.

On the D-line, it may be we don't redshirt any except Nolan DeFranco, who I think will become a good player for us. Other than he, it looks all may play this year if ready or sufficiently ready. We're just going to need them in all likelihood. Dunlap could redshirt. He came in kind of raw and if everyone is healthy and he's not markedly better than say a guy like Crawford, then we may not need his size. But he's a big, athletic, aggressive talent that flew under the radar a bit. Wouldn't be surprised to see him play but if Crawford and Clarke are healthy and better, he'll redshirt.

Both Fox and Cater, if they are ready, are likely to play this year. We're actually pretty thin at DE.

Made me curious about Clemson's offensive rankings....

OL #1
QB #1
WR #1
RB #10
Couldn't find TE

A pretty good chance to be explosive
