IMO unless Jacoby significantly outperforms him in practice, Drake is going to get the nod based on potential.

Tough decision indeed. As you said, there’s just something about those Maye boys. But Jacolby is a very talented guy and will push Maye hard for the starting QB spot. His extra year of experience can’t be overstated.
Yeah that’s a tough situation to manage. Jacolby looks super athletic carrying the rock, and he has the experience of being in the offense for a few years. He’s got pretty good arm strength but we haven’t really seen him get enough reps to know how good he is at working through the reads.
Drake is going to be a little rough around the edges for awhile. He’s obviously talented but this style of offense isn’t always easy for a freshman to pick up on. Jacolby will probably be the guy who comes in for a snap if Sam gets his helmet knocked off or something. But I think Drake is going to end up being QB1 next year. He’s got a way better arm and is significantly taller than Jacolby. There’s a reason why bama wanted him.
If drake does win the job next year, I hope Jacolby sticks around. Could still be useful in a wildcat package around the redzone.
Agreed on all counts. BTW, rumor has it that Jacolby has a strong arm. His experience in the program may give him the edge this year. And yes, he could be very effective in a wildcat package in the redzone. He can really run.
I thinks JC will be QB2 and Maye will be QB3 tied with Boax kid. I think Maye will be R/S but will get some snaps in some blow out games. Let just hope our Offense takes cares of business as they should but if not then no one will know how Maye does in live game action. I'm just curious on why some think JC has to effective in wildcat package? I've heard his arm is very strong and he to can make all the throws.

Oh no that's not what I'm saying. I think it would a a waste not to R/S him in which I'm sure they will but he'll get some snaps in 4 games. Besides as I mentioned, we don't know exactly how they will perform under live game actions. I get the practice/scrimmages can be a bit unproven because hopefully his teammates are trying to take his head off. We never know how someone reacts under certain pressure. I hope Sam lights up the score board and give our other Qbs more live game reps to show what they can do. It's gonna be interesting.
If that happens, then that means the better QB stays and we have a scholarship to use. It's a good problem to have.

I know that. But, I don't think Alabama recruits you unless you're top talent.
Side note, Boaz slung the f out of the rock while at East Surry. One day when the Heels are up by 30 late in the 4Q, I'd love to see Boaz to Gosnell for a TD, like old times.

However his other throws weren't that great and he had some pretty bad turnovers. Great decision making is as important as having accuracy & strength. He needs to be tested a bit so he can prove his ability to read & execute.

Gosnell has had a really nice off-season -- watch out for him this Fall.
remember, Sam was basically even with Cade Fortin & Jace Ruder end of fall camp
i see the necessity of naming a starter, but i don't see the necessity of naming the top backup.
Still think Criswell will be QB2 but Maye will get some PT considering he can play in 4 games and still keep the R/S tag on him. I just don't seeing wasting that extra year when or if Criswell is that bad or both are somewhat equal. Normally if both QB2 are equal the senior player gets the nod.
Maye isn't staying for a 5th year unless he's really not what we need him to be
