Bacot Suffers Ankle Injury, Its Seriousness Not Yet Known

Shouldnt need Bacot to beat Louisville or Boston College. If so, UNC is in big trouble and needs to recruit better.
We are down to 1 healthy big man, and he is a freshman coming off two ACL surgeries.

We need to get Bacot and Nance healthy. Until then we are vulnerable to any team with multiple big men, including Louisville and BC.

You could argue that Shaver and McKoy were wasted scholarships. I'm not ready to give up on Shaver yet bc he does have great hands and a pretty jumpshot. So he might become a valuable player down the line. McKoy was definitely a mistake out of the transfer portal. He's not good at playing the 3, 4, or 5 spots. We could certainly be in better position had his scholarship gone to any number of transfers or high school recruits. But really if Bacot, Nance, and Washington are all healthy we'd be in very good shape to battle any bigs we face.

If nance is out It’s gonna be sad if Hubert starts Justin instead of Washington.

Whose fault is it that we recruited Shaver and McKoy instead of bringing in better talent so we aren't in these situations? Regardless of those guys, our guards (Love and Davis) should be able to take over games (especially against bottom feeders) and get us by without needing Bacot. But unfortunately they are too inconsistent and play below their talent level and expectations. That seems to be the case with everyone on this team except Bacot. Is that a talent issue or a coaching issue?

Would Nance and Washington have even come here if those 2 scholarships were occupied by starting caliber players instead of bench warmers like Shaver and McKoy? It's really hard to fill all 13 scholarships with starters and rotation players.

Even the most talented roster Roy ever assembled had the last few scholarships occupied by guys who were basically useless in conference games. And by the time we made the championship game, we only had 1 player (Bobby Frasor) that Roy trusted to sub in for Lawson, Ellington, Green.

We still have to be cautious with Washington! He was being slow-walked into game shape and closely monitored for any setbacks. We cannot let immediate need outweigh this kid's lifelong health! The kid is special and will soon become s real problem for opponents! I would start him if he had no soreness from his extended work, but I might start McKoy if he did.

TP, get what ya saying but way I look at it, kid has been full go released by the med staff, has now played extended minutes in a game for us. He does not yet have his game legs, note the difference first to second half vs UVa, I think he tired a bit in that second half. This was his first game in which he came in and had to play a lot of minutes and did that in a really hard arena for us to play in. People don't realize how draining that is both physically and emotionally.

But I tell you what his play vs Uva did show me, something I suspected but had to see first, that when we can put Bacot and this kid on the floor together, we could have something really exciting. I speculated before this season that this kid could well earn the starting 4 spot before this season is over. Now, to be able to have Nance come off the bench for either Jalen or Bacot really shores up our front court, takes it to a different level. Jalen's turn around jumper is $$$ and coming from the kind of length that kid has, could become unstoppable because he has a nice high release on it and with that 7'5" reach not many big men can get up enough to hinder it. Really nice counter punch to Bacot's physical inside play, really love to see this kid add a jump hook to his tool box.

That was a serious drop-off - especially on offense. Heck, even Dickie V shut up about him in the 2nd half.

Ever since that game, I have been wondering how much of that was stamina and how much was Bennett making adjustments at halftime.

Can you (or anyone else) comment on that? I mean we know that Bennett can coach. If he made a coaching change that shut down Washington, I assume other coaches will have spotted that and will do the same.

Let's all take a moment to feel sorry for Kenny Payne. Not only does he have a crappy team, but he doesn't even know what kind of UNC to prepare for.

If we are still missing Bacot and Nance, this could be Louisville's best chance this year to upset a good team. But he has to prepare for it.

Even with Bacot and Nance in our lineup, Louisville is slightly taller. With them gone, the margin is large. They have 7 guys 6'8 and taller. Maybe they aren't so good, but they have a lot of fouls to give if they choose to hammer Washington.

They put a slightly smaller but more mobile and physical dude on him The guy also was hitting 3s forcing Washington to guard way out on the floor. This combo plus the extended minutes took the wind out of his sails!

I would suggest it was a bit of both, there is no way he has his game legs yet, you only get those by playing and before this game he had only played less than 20mins for the season, you just do not develop game legs in practice. Bennett went to Vander Paus on him in that second half, more agility but good weight to bang on the kid. Then he banged on him with more length with Shedrick and the other big kid, thru at lot at him and I think maybe confused him some.

Kenny payne, feel sorry for Kenny Payne? Not me, feel sorry for the ole Kalipari bag man? He deserves everything he gets (as long as it isn't winning)! Plus, plus as an assistant he has that dukie as well? Beat them by 50 and laugh at them!
