Hasnt been a lot of talk on here about this but-Really looking forward to watching these two go at it, and their matchup could help determine the game.

A lot of tasty matchups. And it's hard to predict how they will play out.

Assuming both are healthy, Berry has the experience and is a better outside shot. They are listed as about the same weight. Berry looks stronger but both are strong. Smith is taller.

Until lately I would have said Berry had the better handle, but that's looked shaky in recent games, so we'll see. Maybe just the flu. Smith's handle isn't as tight as expected, but maybe that's because he takes more risks. It would be fun to see Theo on Smith, but we don't know if Theo has his full range of motion yet, and I'm not sure I want to find out against Smith.

I think Smith has more upside - although it would be nice to see Berry prove that wrong - but does he have enough more to counter Berry's experience and toughness?

We need someone to keep a hand in Henderson's face. If he gets hot, he can hurt us. But I don't think that requires our best defender. Kenny could do it except that he may be a bit short for the job. Justin has the size. He may be a bit slow but that's who I'd start on Henderson. Brandon could be perfect - size and quickness - but I'm not sure he's quite up to that just yet.

Dorn is a great player that doesn't seem to get the attention he deserves. He'll be very tough to guard.

When Rowan is in, he and Justin are a great matchup. Should be fun to watch.

No way Henderson keeps Justin in check.

Berry needs to challenge Smith. Not sure Smith's D will bother Berry too much.

This could be a bad game for Nate. He's just too short and light to handle Dorn when in at the 2. Again, I hope to be proven wrong. But he's so quick he could harrass Smith when in at the 1.

I see both Dorn and Smith being able to get past our defenders. Not at will, but often enough to cause us troubles. Guys need to be ready to switch, and switch quick.

Good analysis. I think Berry and Smith are the two best pg in the conference. Ive only seen state play a couple of times and the one guy you didnt mention was the turkish kid for them. Could present a matchup issue as from what I saw he can pull our bigs away from the basket.

I think Smith is more athletic, but the fact that he is only a freshman may not help him today. Berry is #1 in the country IMO as far a "refuse to lose mentality" goes (when healthy, which I believe he is now) so I'm hoping that prevails today. Slightly nervous about this game, don't have a great feeling.

Berry v Smith will be interesting. Jackson should dominate at home in this game. Meeks needs to control the glass. I think Meeks and Tony together can work well against their front line.

I read a piece on Dorn. Said his mom and dad both attended UNC (dad playing football here) and his brother is a freshman who played football this year and got his first start the other week in the Sun Bowl. Talk about a house divided.

I didn't touch on bigs in that post. Partly because the picture (to me) is even cloudier.

Yurtseven is not looking as good as expected. More Luke Maye than Tony Bradley. But is that just an adjustment problem (and a late start problem) or because he was overrated? The couple of times I tuned into a State game, he did basically nothing. Nothing good, nothing bad. Just went up and down the floor. I have zero to evaluate him on. But I wasn't impressed.

Abu, who tested the waters last year and returned (amid rumors that he was also considering transferring), is still good, but hardly seems to have improved. Good athlete, but low basketball IQ? Beejay is what he is. I like the kid. Like Kennedy and Dexter and a few others I can think of he seems to have honest fun out there. Which doesn't necessarily translate into good performance. But he has enough talent that he could give us trouble. Their other freshman, Kapita, has impressed me. He'll probably throw a couple of impressive moves on us today. But he makes too many freshman mistakes.

I think the Abu-Hicks matchup could be a lot of fun to watch. I expect Kennedy to win the matchup with Beejay - although I can see Beejay blocking Kennedy several times.

The question mark matchups are when Yurtseven and Kapita and Tony and Luke are in the game. Could be a lot of fun. Yurtseven and Bradley could be a great battle. If nothing else, we'll get to see whether Yurtseven is overrated. Kapita might kill Luke with athleticism, but Luke's bb IQ could baffle Kapita into ineffectiveness.

If both teams go small, that could be even more fun. Imagine this:

Berry - Smith
Kenny - Dorn
Theo - Henderson
Justin - Abu
Isaiah - Yurtseven

If Theo is anywhere near 100% I think we kill them, but who knows? Either way it could be dazzling and fast and fun. I hope we see some of that.

DS is a studd! But when you have gun barrels firing at you from inside/outside, front/back, left/right, north/south, up/down, COMBINED that with a think sauce of shut-down defense...that's a recipe for "utter" Shell Shock!!!

The hell are you talking about? Nothing went over my head. Let me break it down for YOU. When he stated that DSJ was MIA it was mainly bc he had THREE fouls in the first half. Did that go over your head?! I totally understand Berry had the better stats w less minutes AT THE END of the game. I don't even give a shit about DSJ I was just making a point. And I'm enjoying this beat down just fine with you. Hope that's ok.
