I couldn't be more surprised if you'd said Wang Chung. Beauty is indeed in the eye of the beholder.
I have been waiting for W so I could post him as best, and figured someone would call it out. Take his persona out of the equation, and just with the music, there's no question to me he is one of the best. Every album has at least two great songs, with a few having five or six. The College Dropout is one of the best debut albums ever, with Late Registration, Graduation, and My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy all being fantastic albums also. The man is supremely talented. Is he a jerk? Sure. No one will deny that. But he has a parade of hits, not to mention 21 Grammys (top 10 all time), and to me, he is one of the best, hands down.

As I said, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. And we're from much different generations. To each his own. I don't care for Picasso either but he's considered a great artist.

That's fair enough, I can recognize that he doesn't appeal to everyone for one reason or another.

As I said, we're from completely different generations. There are just so many great "W's" to choose from:

The Who
Stevie Wonder
Steve Winwood
Roger Waters
Joe Walsh
Doc Watson
Hank Williams
Wilco
Don Williams
Brian Wilson
Wings
Gillian Welch
Keith Whitley

And I could go on. I imagine you've never listened to some of those artists. And I have to admit I've listened to very little Kanye. Different eras.

I do like quite a number of the ones you mentioned, honestly, Stevie was the one I debated the most for my actual "best" and not just honorable mention, but there are a lot of good ones for this letter for sure.

Stevie was one of the most talented singer/songwriter/musicians of the last 50 years. Uber talented.
Stevie was on tonight show (or one of those late night shows) recently and his voice still sounds great.

To anyone that's only heard his hits, do yourself a favor and listen to these great albums of his from the 70's...
