I have always thought that Henderson would prove the best passing QB of the group we now have on campus. That is another reason to go with Trubisky. If he fails to show by the end of this year that with game experience he is better than MW, then in Spring give the ball to Henderson.
One of the improvements I see in our fans is that almost all have stopped making excuses for QB Marquise Williams. Last year, most blamed the OL for all Williams many failures to hit wide open receivers.
Our OL opened nice holes for the RBs and have MW good time to pas. MW failed, as he has at most things other than him running the ball between the tackles.
We'll see if Fedora and OC Littrell are as smart as the fans.
That has been my take all along. The only reason to not go that way is if we have weak WRs (and we have good ones, I think the best top 4 in the ACC) and/or poor RBs (and our RBs have very good potential).
And for running between the tackles - I still say that once Ty'Son Williams gets some experience, he will be a formidable reserve for Hood.
Ty'Son Williams is going to be Hood Part 2
MW was as good a back yard football QB playing in the ACC as anybody ever had. But he not only crapped his pants in almost all BIG games, at least for a half, but he did so, I think, because he knew his limitations. He read pass coverages slowly, and not with the best accuracy. And his passing touch was always erratic. So he always felt great pressure when he knew the game was big and the foe could stop his broken play running. He knew he could not beat anybody good with his passing game smarts and accuracy.
Trubisky was a better pass game QB than MW 2 years ago. And Trubisky is faster and bigger than many think - he will run well when he needs to. He will read pass D's quickly and accurately, especially for a 1st year starter. And he has the touch to complete quite a few passes that MW missed.
Our offense will be fine. It is the D we rightly worry about.
that's why college football is my favorite sport. every player has an important role on every play, on offense or defense. ten guys do it right, but one guy screws up -- the play is dead. that's why it's the ultimate team sport.Xach Gill: "Defense is one of those things if everybody’s on the same page, a lot of things can click and it’s something beautiful to watch.”....
Gary doesn't constantly insult one of our best players in program history. Not a good comparison.Another attempted thread derailment. If it’s not Gary on the other board, it’s Woad on this one. And all because a handful of posters can’t say they disagree and drop it or just ignore them.
I didn’t say it was the same posters. I’m well aware it isn’t.Gary doesn't constantly insult one of our best players in program history. Not a good comparison.
ETA: and those posters above very rarely read radar, much less post there. So don't blame them for all of those arguments. You should actually look at who argues over there.
I wouldn’t count on it. It’s a difficult system and they will be in their first year. I expect lots of blown plays and miscues. We still don’t have much depth either.Anyone else have any comments on the quote? We have not had a defense in years where it looked like everyone was on the same page for a lot of plays. Busted assignments, missed tackles, etc. have been the norm. Hope Xack is right and we have a defense that is fun to watch again.

I see you're still trolling. You going to run off and report me like you did last time? You were ok with a Clemson troll bashing Tar Heels last season. What changed?

i agree with you, depth on defense has been a huge problem the past few years. fatigue has caused injuries and 4th quarter collapses -- i'm tired of it. it will take mack a few years to build ample depth. in the meantime, the best way to compensate is to keep the defense off the field with a strong running game that grinds out first downs and keeps the D off the field. i'm confident mack understands this....It’s a difficult system and they will be in their first year. Longo seems to be running a faster pace than Fedora from what I can gather. I am not sure he will slow anything down.i agree with you, depth on defense has been a huge problem the past few years. fatigue has caused injuries and 4th quarter collapses -- i'm tired of it. it will take mack a few years to build ample depth. in the meantime, the best way to compensate is to keep the defense off the field with a strong running game that grinds out first downs and keeps the D off the field. i'm confident mack understands this.
it's not about pace, it's about first downs, long drives, staying on the field. and first down often means running the ball strong for short yardage situations. winning teams do two things: a) run the ball strong for reliable yardage, and b) stop the run on def. it's no coincidence that the last time unc won the acc in 1980 we had a couple of tailbacks named amos lawrence and kelvin bryant. try and stop THAT on 3rd and short!Longo seems to be running a faster pace than Fedora from what I can gather.
