I have received quite a few emails since last night about the nastiness that erupted on the board last night. I will reply to every email individually, but I wanted to go ahead and post my response to Richard's concern about how things got out of control.

Let me preface by saying that I really appreciate everyone's passion for the Tar Heels and patronage to this site. I also feel for every one of you this afternoon over last night's defeat. That was a tough one, no doubt, and having grown up in a UNC family I can assure you that I fully understand the passion and pain that can be accompanied with following UNC hoops. Now, here's my response to Richard:

Richard,

Thank you for taking the time to express yourself in such a passionate manner. I appreciate your position and agree with much of what you are saying.

I think Mike does a good job and was probably only reacting emotionally as many of the posters were. However, moderators need to refrain from that more than regular posters, just like sports writers do, etc.

I am not a fan of censorship on a board such as this unless someone is defamatory or grotesque. If you think Roy sucked coaching last night I believe our boards are the place to express that, just the same as it is for Mike to vehemently disagree. Sports is a diversion, and while UNC basketball is quite personal to many and means more than being a simple escape, I think it's extremely important that you guys have a place to go to vent or boast and to do so in a community where once you let it out as people with the same deep rooting interest it stays right there.

It hurts me to think that after such a painful defeat that more pain is being inflicted on our boards, that's not good. It shouldn't become personal.

I hope you choose to stay with us because I strongly believe that the overall product of THI will get much better in the future as I continue to learn about this position and have opportunities to implement changes. And I hope the boards are also a place you are comfortable going to vent, praise, and haggle back and forth respectably disagreements with others.

Thank you again for your passion and your support for THI. I have coped Mike on this email and will speak with him.
