Box Score . .

I can’t find it quickly, anyone know what Carolina shot % wise in the second half? It had to have been over 70%.

Favorite stat from the box score- Luke tied State's starting lineup 17-17 in rebounds (8 offensive rebounds, nice). Also seeing again how well we rebounded as a team collectively once again, Joel and Kenny added 5 each and once again winning the battle on the boards 37-20. Rebounding is definitely a team effort and it is good to see that our guys are all buying into it, the results definitely have been shown in the last few games.

I think it means more to him, since his dad was a former Tar Heel as well. He knows that state is a hated rival that deserves to be beat.

On the other hand, I can understand where Joel doesn’t think of state as a rival since he’s not from North Carolina and during his time, we’ve owned them.

We should wave a red flag in front on Luke "the Bull" every game. If there has ever been aN ACC player who has come out of nowhere to dominate like Luke has, someone please remind me.
One question: all the announcers like referring to Luke as a walk-on, but if I’m not mistaken, didn’t it actually go like this: he was planning to be a walk-on but in the summer before he came to chapel hill Roy informed him that he was getting a scholarship after all?

I believe that was indeed the case. But it's such a good story...

I thought was a very interesting stat, it clearly showed the importance of taking care of the ball and how much more successful our team is when we are able to do this effectively, converting in 29 of 30 possessions is very impressive. Limiting the turnovers and valuing the basketball definitely lead to good results on the offensive end.

Yep and he was an ESPN top 100 player... Wasn't just some scrub lol

Could be wrong, but I thought he was given a preferred walk-on knowing that Roy believed he could play and contribute, and would get the scholly the next year. A scholarship spot opened earlier then expected and it was his at that point

You are correct.

Mark, actually Luke did in fact come in as an invited walk on with the understanding that if a scholly was available he would get it and as fate dictated there was one available. He was not a scrub by any means and he did have major D-1 offers, Clemson I believe was one but he wanted to be a Tar Heels so much he elected to take his chances and man, we should all be very glad he did!

I recall VERY clearly Tar Heel fans bemoaning that class of Luke and Kenny to be a total whiff of a class and frankly Luke was considered the weak link in this totally blown class. Well it darn sure looks differently today doesn't it, is there a better 2 man class from that same year looking any better than our blown recruiting class of Luke and Kenny? I don't think you will find a recruiting class from that season that has or will contribute more to their school of choice than Luke and Kenny have and will give us.

I like Roy's telling of the story too...I am paraphrasing...Luke go ask your Dad for $1000 so you can go to the beach. I can't do that coach. Okay then go tell you Dad you have a scholarship to play at UNC.

As to David's post above, yeah he had Davidson and another D1 after him as well, he could have been the kid on another team we couldn't stop...as it happened Mom & Dad raised him a Tar Heel and he wanted to be at UNC so bad he was willing to take a route some kids wouldn't, speaks to his character.

That was as good a performance yesterday as I can remember from a Tar Heel in a regular season game. He got into a bit of foul trouble early on, battling against much bigger Pack players. But despite this, he scored from all over the court, consistently beat their players down the court, was a beast on the boards, blocked a couple of shots, and dropped 3 dimes. Oh and BTW, he shot right at 70% from the field.

Doesn't get much better than that.

Arch, you like some of us other oldsters know it is a short list, Rosenbluth, Cunningham, Kupchak and now Luke.

Airport! :eek::cool:

That is indeed rarefied air, Tom.

I think my expectations for Luke were higher than the vast majority of our fans. But I was just thinking that he may very well start by this year. I had absolutely no idea that he would be playing at this level. He continually amazes me.

Some of my very favorite UNC players are quiet, cerebral, humble young men like Tyler Zeller and Marcus Paige. Luke is now on that list. Couldn't be prouder of him or happier for him and his family.

Maye played great. 6 turnovers. Felt like more watching the game.

I know I will get skewered for this but that is quite a few.

Well it is true...some of our kids made some very silly mistakes, one that really got me & Roy...Sterling inbounding and stepped over the end line prior to releasing the ball...but not to beat up on any one guy, we had way too many TO's. Fortunately some of that was mitigated in a couple of other stat areas. Rebounding being one...
