Looking over the Tar Heels’ 20-13 win at Miami and Mitch Trubisky clearly had an outstanding game. He was high on a couple of throws and behind on even more, but his overall numbers of 33-46 for 299 yards and 2 TDs were awfully good. But peeling away a few numbers, and Trubisky’s day gets even better.

*In plays that began inside Miami’s 40-yard-line, Trubisky completed 11 of 15 pass attempts for 64 yards and 2 TDs. His touchdown passes went for 1 and 5 yards, so theoretically he could/should have had more passing yards inside the 40.

Inside the 30 he was 6-9 for 37 yards, inside the 20 he was 4-6 for 27 yards, and inside the 10 he was 3-4 for 12 yards.

*Trubisky also was credited with 11 runs, one of which was ruled a sack when he lost 12 yards. Overall, Trubisky ran for 47 yards, most of which were tough, needed yards. A breakdown of when he ran: 4 attempts for 10 yards on 1st down; 4-17 on 2nd down; 3-2 on 3rd down, which is the down when he was sacked, so his other two 3rd-down runs went for 14 yards.

*Interesting, Trubisky gained five 1st downs using his feet.

*On 3rd down, Trubisky completed 8 of 14 pass attempts for 110 yards, 2 scores and 6 1st downs. Running on 3rd down, he gained 2 yards on 3 attempts, one being that 12-yard sack. He picked up 1st downs on his other two runs.
