Respect him for being honest about his opinion. Too bad he's going to be wrong, UNC will be beat IU to advance to the elite 8.
I don't have a problem with this. He wouldn't keep his job very long if he picked UNC for every single thing. Technically, he's now a media member and should try to stay objective to get respect from fans outside of just UNC.
Not saying that at all. But he's basically new to ESPN and I think everyone would expect him to pick UNC. But by not picking them to win it all it gives the impression that he can be objective, which is important if he wants to continue on this path. Doesn't matter if it's in the first round or the championship game. I think as long as he doesn't pick UNC to win it all it helps him from a perception standpoint.
Fair enough Rob. But if he's done it for perception and UNC goes on to win it all, how does that make him look as an "analyst"? After all, aren't they paid to provide insight and to have a good grasp on what is most likely to happen?
You mean objective like Dook Vitale .. ?? A case could easily be made for UNC, as well as a number of other teams winning it all without appearing biased. Sometimes people do things to appear to be objective. jmho
Sometimes it is a bizzar world, we have a fomer tar Heel player picking Ky to beat us and we have a couple dukies (Bilas and jay Will) picking us to go at least the the title game?
I really hope you guys understand what I'm trying to say. I don't think anybody really holds weight to any champion pick someone makes because there are too many variables.

While you might not consider him GREAT, you are undercutting him by saying he is an OK player. Dude is the all time leader in FG % (.637) and Blocks (304) at Carolina. He also is top 5 in most games played in UNC history. He almost shot 70% one season from the field (191 - 274). He also has the record for most blocks in a season with 120, averaging more than 3.64 blocks a game(120 in 33 games). He also has a 10 block game against Miami in 2000.
I'd say all of this makes him more than "OK".
He was a great player at UNC, no doubt. TBS, I'm very glad he was wrong. I think IU is a better TEAM than UK, not talent wise, but synergistically. They'll be tough but if we play defense like we have been, I likes our chances!

His argument would have real weight if Carolina had squeezed into the tournament as a 16 seed and Kentucky was #1 overall. Just to be clear, I would still pick Carolina every-single-time, but that's just me being a fan(atic). IMO he sold out at the request of CBS producers/managers.

IMO, your opinion is garbage, his picks are his picks, nobody is telling him who to pick. He's no less family for making that prediction, some people need to realize there is a differing opinion than the Heels are the only team out there. If everybody thought the Heels were #1 all the time, life would be boring, promise!!!!
Might want to bump that "dook @ UNC" Gameday thread also. What UNC "fans" had to say about Roy and the players made Haywood's pick look tame.
