GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – North Carolina senior Brice Johnson has been selected as the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the third time this season, while Syracuse’s Malachi Richardson earned the league’s Rookie of the Week recognition.

ACC weekly honors are determined by a vote of a select media panel.

UNC’s Johnson led all players with 27 points and 11 rebounds in an 83-68 win over Wake Forest and led all players with 19 points and 17 rebounds in UNC’s 75-70 win at Virginia Tech. He added two blocks and three steals vs. the Deacons and three blocks and three steals vs. the Hokies.

In the two games, Johnson was 16-of-27 from the floor (.593) and 14-of-17 from the free throw line (.824). He averaged 23.0 points, 14.0 rebounds, 2.5 blocks and 3.0 steals. The Wake Forest game was the Orangeburg, South Carolina, native’s fourth of the year with at least 25 points and his third 20/10 game. The Virginia Tech game marked his 11th double-double of the season.

Syracuse’s Richardson averaged 18.5 points and 4.0 rebounds in a pair of games for the Orange, including a career-high 23 points in Sunday night’s road loss to No. 13 Virginia. The Trenton, New Jersey, native connected on six 3-point shots against the Cavaliers while shooting 8-of-15 overall from the floor.

Last Monday, Richardson scored 14 points and pulled down six rebounds in Syracuse’s 64-62 road win at No. 12 Duke. Overall, Richardson connected on 9-of-16 shots from 3-point range (.563) in the Orange’s two contests last week while playing an average of 38.5 minutes per game.
