Probably a done deal.

That likelyy means that FSU will look to run QBs more, with veer-based schemes.

Do you think this hire helps us flip Howell since he's a pro-style QB?

Yes

Art Briles played at Houston for Bill Yeoman. And the veer that Yeoman developed and ran used QBs to run often, especially to use reading LBs and DEs to run wide. Kendal Briles wants fast, quick QBs who can and will love to run often.

Ruder could shine in that offense, especially as I think he has better passing game skills than I expected he'd have as a true freshman. Briles would prefer his QB to be a bit faster, but Ruder is fast and quick and clearly likes to run the ball. But both Fortin and Howell should avoid it.

The only reason Howell is called a pro style qb is because of the color of his skin. He runs an rpo heavy offense in high school and leads his team in rushing... he is a dual threat

Truth be told the only Pro Style QB left are in the NFL and they are all 35 years old or older...It’s a thing of the past....
Fromm is a true pocketpasser...so is deiondre Francois and James Blackmon. They are out there still not quite extinct yet

If Howell chooses FSU, he will likely be injured as DF was because their OL is maybe the worst in the ACC, and it ain't going to get better in a year or two.....

I've seen Howell play, and he is definitely a dual threat QB...

FSU has a long road back to respectability, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if they make another coaching change after next season if they don't get it turned around...

I can tell you now a coaching change will not need to happen. Jimbo left that program in shambles people forget so fast that they were like 4 playS away from a 4-8 campaign the yr before. Frost lost almost all his games this yr in blowout fashion... ditto for chip Kelly but the only coach that is being crucified happens to be the one of African American heritage... I do not believe this is a coincidence. And I loathe using the race card. Taggart is know for his rebuilding of programs. Now as one poster said we don't know if he has staying power, but one thing for sure he can resurrect a lost cause. USF was dead in the water until he turned ed them ari d. Oregon was floundering until he came in. It just happens the coach that left FSU quit coaching them for a total yr. When you lose a yr of development it kills you especially on the offensive line. NO one wanted to play for Tricket and yet Jimbo wanted to keep him so bad. I hope Mack is willing toncur bait quickly if he sees someone or something not working out. Because what happened at FSUwould be exponentially worse for us if he doesn't or isn't willing.

While I do agree with you that Jimbo's loyalty to former OL Coach Trickett did make things worst at FSU, there's also a great deal of pressure that WT is going to have on him heading into next season....Florida now seems to have a stable situation and UCF is also a program on the rise which makes it tougher to recruit the in-state prospects...

FSU at times this year looked like a team that was poorly coached, and that falls directly on the shoulders of Taggert and his assistants....I know that Taggert did a good job at building USF into a good program before he left for Oregon, but USF and Oregon do not have the same pressure to win as they do at FSU, and that is why I think that WT is on a very short lease that is only going to get tighter next year if the Noles don't turn things around, and I don't have any confidence that they will....

Personally, I think it would be a huge mistake for Howell to jump into that unsettled situation with an OL as bad as FSU's is, and it doesn't really matter how it got that way....It's hard to recruit good OL talent if they see what the rest of us have seen from FSU the last several years because things just don't seem to be getting better even with a new coaching staff...

I know that better recruits will solve those issues, but are the top OL recruits willing to take a chance on FSU, based on what they see?

Well Lucas, Putnam, and an Auburn commit who will probably flip to fsu say help is on the way; plus they are gaining ground on juco prospects. You are right; fair or not the leash will be short
