Briscoe mcd's interview: i chose uk cause.......

...and he academically couldn't get into anywhere else, apparently.

I wish kids would pick UNC because Nick Collison played here. The reality is kids pick coaches more than schools. If Cal was still at Memphis these kids would be going to Memphis. If Roy were at Kansas then Hanbrough would've gone to Kansas. We would still get kids and Kentucky would because of the school....but kids play for coaches.

Not really surprising if you think about it...

Hence the reason the same 6 to 10 schools remain on top year after year ... the "rich get richer." We'd be right in the mix if it wasn't for the academic scandal and lost recruits.

However...imo it seems here lately that we are on the lower end of that hierarchy. Our recruiting dominance has for sure slipped and I don't want to hear excuses. No way we should lose in state studs to anyone.

The last 2 years Roy has pulled in Meeks and Hick in 2013 and Jackson, Berry, and Pinson in 2014, all Mickey D's. While Carolina is getting great players, the elites are trending UK, Duke, and maybe Kansas. Roy has missed how many bigs since 2012? I think it's a downward cycle made worse by UK's success, but you wonder how many misses have actually been b/c of negative recruiting capitalizing on the bad press.

Yeah this Syracuse class was secured LONG before anyone had any idea that they were going to get punished. The UNC stuff has been in the media for 4+ years now. It's not an excuse, it's fact. Roy has publicly talked about how difficult this scandal has made recruiting ... would you tell him to his face "stop making excuses" ?? I doubt it. If you don't think opposing coaches are telling these recruits "be careful with UNC ....." then you're just stubborn and/or naive.

The effects of the scandal are being horrendously overestimated by some fans here. The timeline of the "scandal" is 4 years; the effects of it are not. UNC was cleared of wrongdoing around Mid 2012. Before that time, Most i spoke to about the scandal were under the impression that it was a football issue.

IIRC, The Wainstein report began in early 2014, as did Willingham's crusade. But the weight of the scandal was not truly felt until McC*nts started running his mouth in June/July and the NCAA returned to UNC.

We can assume that we've missed almost all our targets in 2015 due to the scandal, but 2012, 2013 and 2014 can be called into question. From quick examination, we've missed out on about 14 recruits in 2013 and 2014 alone. 11 of which were 5 star talent. This list includes Jones, Randle, Wiggins, Vonleh, Parker, Vaughn, and quite a few more. The list will be longer if you check the 2012 class as well.

I believe Roy when he says that the scandal has cost us recruits. But I doubt it's as many as some of you are estimating. JS.

Exactly Rose Hill and I would tell Roy to his face.....quit bellyaching and go get some players. No excuse for not getting a top drawer player this year...none. We need one.

if you don't think other coaches are telling recruits that carolina bball is going to get hammered by the ncaa and they will never play in the tourney you're nuts.

So what...UNC has had coaches telling recruits one thing or another to get them away from coming here for years....instead of crying about it get 10 times aggressive and assure the recruits we are not going to get hammered... Whether we are or not....I guess we don't believe what we are selling which is a strong indicator we are gonna get hammered and like Syracuse we deserve everything we are getting...I don't buy in to that attitude....go outwork and outsell the negative recruiting....jmho

That can be applied to the fball coaches as well.the same thing has been said about fball recruiting.

you can overcome the usual negative recruiting but when everything they hear on tv and in the newspapers mentions paper classes and ncaa sanctions recruits start paying more attention to the negatives than the positives.
our football and basketball coaches have never had to overcome anything like what they're having to deal with now.

Malik Monk was interviewed this weekend after another dominating performance on the AAU circuit....He said that he was not making a decision on his school till Spring of 2016..when asked why he said....he was waiting to see what would play out....what coaches would leave, what schools might get in trouble, what players would leave! The only school recruiting him who has the NC2A on them is UNC! I thought his statements were very telling!!

What an absurd post. All of it.

Your suggestion is that Roy Williams and Larry Fedora don't work hard enough at recruiting, which is absolutely asinine. The other suggestion is that if they just worked harder, we would land every recruit we targeted. Again, absolutely asinine.

i dont think it has as much to do with the scandal as it does with calipari being at kentucky. the superstars we were getting from 05-2010 would now rather play for Cal due to his track record of putting guys in the nba. pretty simple

I think Roy said it was 6-8 (or 10) recruits he missed out on because of scandal.

Someone should e-mail Adam Lucas and get those names to put this argument to rest. TIA!

How low have we sunk? Now our own fans are calling our coach a liar! No need in laughing at other schools fans any longer.

What's absurd us our closing % on top recruits in both sports.... That's what's absurd....All the other big time programs in both sports continued to ink top talent while under the NCAA microscope?... Why not us...its easy to blame it on the scandel...iv it makes you feel better...I'm sure it has mad it more difficult... But to be the University of North Carolina particularly in basketball our closing % out right sucks...fact.

So Roy is lying, right Scout ... it's yes or no ... there is no gray area here, based on what you've said.

What microscope is dook under? What microscope is Wisconsin under? What microscope is Michigan State under? What microscope is Arizona under? .. and on and on and on. (focusing on bball here ... bball board)

I can't speak for scout, but the numbers are there guys. Every missed recruit cannot be blamed on the scandal. You can also call some of our recruiting tactics in to play. Things could be a lot better than they are right now. Remember when Lyles practically begged UNC to recruit him? Remember when we simply stopped recruiting Trevor Lacey? I'm sure he had fun lighting up UNC this year. Hell, Charles Matthews was a UNC fan. I'm sure he could have been pulled away from the clutches of Cal had Roy even tried! The list goes on and on.
