Is C.B. breaking the coaching code with these statements?

"College basketball is always going to be college basketball," McGrath said. "I do think there's going to be a different way to go about recruiting. Hopefully being more ethical -- which I've been wanting for a long time because I was at UNC and there were guys that we couldn't recruit based on who was calling their shots. We knew it, and we couldn't say it.

"But I think now UNC fans are probably realizing why these one-and-dones were going to certain schools or certain places because of what was going on behind the scenes. We knew it was going on... I still don't know how I could start having a conversation with a kid or his family about that. We've been approached by families saying 'these people are doing this' and we'd say 'they can do that and we'll see you wherever you go.''

The more important point is the UNC coaches and staff remained above the fray. We recruited fairly. We knew we were up against shoe $$ and unethical recruiters like the asst coach up 15/501 as an example. No code, in business you conduct yourself in a fair, reasonable manner and expect others to do so. Some have no ethics or moral compass, like the asst up 15/501.

I believe his brother played at UNC! Now who could you possibly be referring to?
I bet he works for a big ugly rat in derm who will do anything to win his 5th NC and extend his win total ... some say he is as sleazy as UK and cal. Can the NCAA build a rat trap big enough to catch the louse????

The comments by CB contradict Roy acting dumbfounded by the FBI indictments and the college recruiting scene. It's nice to see CB be brutally honest about what many of us expected.

It seemed to me what dumbfounded Roy was the FBI's sudden involvement and the potential for people to go to jail, not that corruption occurred. I don't see C.B.'s statements as contradictory.

I don’t think there’s a contradiction with Roy’s reaction at all. Likely semantics, but I interpret it as Roy saying he didn’t know the intricacies, details or specifics because quite frankly he never went down those rat holes. I’m sure Roy and all of the coaches had inclinations, heard various stories, etc., but simply stayed away from those situations.

Rat holes, I like what you did there!

CB just opening up about what some of us have been trying to convey on here for years --- and often got labeled conspiracy theorists for our trouble.

There's apparently some kind of code that keeps coaches from Rattin' each other out. I was just surprised to see C.B. actually admit that they knew stuff was going on but couldn't say anything.

But whos he ratting out? He's coming in defense of Roy, and nothing he's said is incriminating.

And He's not specifically naming coaches. This sounds no different than coaches who make the very same statements on college coaches/college game as a whole.

CB has had a track of being brutally honest. Props to him for speaking out.

So explain how it was broken here.
Whether it was "broken" by CB or not is subject to interpretation. I would argue it wasn't since he didn't call out anyone specifically enough to make it readily identifiable, although others might disagree.

If you recall, a few years back Mike Montgomery pretty much fingered Billy Donovan for cheating (without saying his name --- but it was obvious whom he talking about). That was considered "breaking the code" and he walked it back (just to save face --- it wasn't like it wasn't true :D)

Personally, maybe it's time to shine a bit more light into this particular abyss...

Past time gary.
I had a chance years ago to rat out a few NIKE dirtbags but took the high road.

If that opportunity presents itself again I may have to go into witness protection. ;)

Agreed but was simply pointing out Roy and other top names were quick to call out Donovan at the time who was known to be less than on the up and up.
