1. Can he throw with more velocity? His throws over the middle just aren't fast enough, combined with a super long/slow wind-up, the defender (safety, lb, cover-corner, etc) have too much time to get to the ball. He wasn't an early enrollee, and I know he came in with a bad elbow injury, but how likely is it that he can put more zip on the throws over the middle, and maybe quicken his wind-up? In a different offense, maybe he'd be fine as a QB (pending #2), but I feel Fed's offense needs a bit more.

2. Can he improve his poise, patience, vision, anticipation over the off-season? He might get there over 4 yrs, but this team needs it next yr. The playbook has apparently been simplified but it still feels like he is staring people down, too quick to get happy feet when the first read doesn't seem perfect, and his accuracy/anticipation is mixed. His not patient enough one time, but too indecisive the next.

Bonus question, will we be on the QB Grad Transfer market again this spring?

Chaz is who he is. I tried to tell people what to expect. He simply doesn't have the arm to keep opposing defenses honest past 10 yards. His feet are his best asset. We won't be better than average at best with him at QB.

Being on the Grad transfer QB market regularly means you are failing to properly evaluate QBs and/or develop the QBs you sign and/or your team conditioning is poor resulting in many QB injuries and/or a number of QBs you sign transfer out..

And that is bad for the health of the program.

And those limitations and strengths may be precisely the reason that Fedora lit on him.

If you have a QB whose arm sgtrength and accuracy are not top level, you must have a top RB. MUST. And then you have a running spread. If that quick running QB is good enough at that and the top RB is a beast, then your offense can be tough to stop.

But Fedora cannot recruit top RBs. nor can he keep the team staffed with enough RBs. Fedora has loaded up on QBs who are anything but top passers and potentially good or better WRs, and he has failed to land RBs. And he thinks his offense can work with those pieces.

I'll take Mike Leach and his offense any day.

I think he's accurate enough if he's making the right decision. Feels like he could be as accurate as Marquise. And on those long bombs that a Wr runs under, he's got enough arm to get there. But without some zip I think teams are going to be able to ignore the potential of certain plays and focus on stopping other things.

Once he gets the timing figured out, the velocity won't be as much of an issue. Several of his throws have been late, and that will get you picked off all day when you're throwing over the middle. Timing and footwork will definitely improve by the end of the year. I think he has a bright future ahead if we can develop an o-line that can stay healthy

I'm in "wait and see" mode because I'm not a QB guru, nor can I predict the future. I do know there's a lot of improvement needed by him. He needs to learn how to go through his progressions. He's also pretty bad (right now) at creating on the run. If he decides to just tuck it and run, he has some success sometimes. But when he tries to create on the run, not much happens.

Also, does he need different cleats? He loses his footing a lot.

Another thing to consider is he is playing behind one of the worst offensive lines in America.

To me UNC will never be a consistent winner until we can start landing some big uglies on both sides of the ball. From the rankings it has always appeared that Fedora has done a good job recruiting the Oline. Maybe he has and the staff has a hard time developing guys. Then on the defensive side of the ball we all know the big uglies from our beloved state that have chosen to play elsewhere. UNC needs a mean and nasty streak and we do not have the jimmy and joes to play that way.

"one of the worst ol in america" seems hyperbolic, especially regarding pass pro.

Vs Dook Chazz was running for his life, but not vs GT.

When they aren't making mental mistakes (yes, i know that is half the job of an ol) I think they do a good job vs pass pro (cus they are medium-large, pretty mobile and strong)

I think the OL play has been terrible for multiple seasons. GT's defense is terrible. It ain't saying shit to say the OL blocked well in pass pro against them.

I did not watch the OD game, but I have seen all of the other games. As a group they have played pitiful and I do consider them to be one of the worst units in America. We have not exactly played a tough schedule and they do not look good.

Football is won in the trenches, always has been always will be. We have to improve on both sides of the ball to be consistently relevant. Dook of all teams manhandled us.

Heck, Sweet, Prince all look a tiny bit better. So at least there is a hint of improvement. But i'm tired of the run-blocking done by this team. I can't tell if that is an OL prob or a scheme prob though (no lead blocker, detached TE, single-back-everyone detached, etc)
