Can we talk for a minute about how badly ESPN mangled that broadcast?

A van down by the river
Very low production quality considering it was the prime-time Thursday night matchup.

The announcers were just awful. They pronounced players' names wrong on both teams. They also failed football 101 in several instances. One example: they talked about how Pitt's defense had given up 14 scores on 14 attempts in the red zone. Then they went on and on about how, if Pitt stopped UNC on third down in the red zone, Pitt would improve on that stat. UNC kicked a FG, which then meant Pitt had given up 15 scores in 15 RZ attempts...not an improvement! Sheesh.

And holy hell what was going on with the down and distance? They'd show 2nd and 10 when there were clearly only 8 yards to go. Or 3rd and 3 when there were clearly 5 yards to go. That went on all night and the announcers were every bit as bad as the production crew about screwing it up.

Absolute amateur hour. Just not what you'd expect from the World Wide Leader.

Not an SEC team in the game - so the PRO announcers stayed away as well.:D

The NFL has kicked their azz on Thursday night so the WWL can't pay professional announcers to cover all the games. I think last night we had the team that called the Benson Middle School game a week ago.

To be fair, this is because the NFL are money whores and couldn't stand how popular the Thursday college night was getting so they implemented their own Thursday night game.

But yeah I'm with you @Raising Heel (and you know I'm generally not one to be overly annoyed with commentators). What was hilarious to me was when Marquise threw the long bomb to Switzer and the color commentator thought it was going to come back because of a Pitt facemask LOL....

And agreed about the production level. I don't know when exactly it was but I know it was in the second half. They were in 3rd and forever and they threw that pass that Miles somehow failed to intercept it and it fell to their receiver who was laying on the ground. From the TV broadcast, it appeared as though he was just a yard short of the first down, but really the yellow line was 8 yards away from where it should've been. The P-B-P guy was obviously watching the monitors and not the field because he then commented "well now that makes it much more manageable if Pitt wants to go for it here!"

It absolutely sucked a$$ from the camera work to the announcers. One time they were talking about Jeff Shoettmer and they showed a graphic of Mitch Trubisky. The sound quality was awful too. ESPN, I am absolutely convinced, hates Carolina. Fox Sports 1 was showing the TCU/WVU game and the quality was superior. No wonder ESPN has had to cut 300 jobs.

LOL I forgot about the Schoettmer/Trubisky thing.

imo, fox is far superior to that shitty network...from graphics, to audio, to announcing, it just crushes the hype network.

but let's remember, this is the same group that still employs berman, thinks ray lewis is an asset, and broadcasts the wnba.

Don't forget our new running back, Elijah Wood.

I HEARD THAT TOO!!! I LOL'd for a good while. Epic photoshop work!
I can't take credit for the photoshop, someone made it during the game last night and I merely retweeted it haha. But I was very impressed with it, much more so than the work of the announcers.

They called Donnie Miles "Mills" all night long.

but my favorite was when they came back from a commercial for Allstate, and said "celebrating our eleventh year sponsoring the good head, er... I mean good hands field goal nets."
Yup and yup.

I was actually watching the game at my mom's house (she injured her back last week so I was checking in on her) and hoped she didn't catch that. Buncha buffoons.

Haha... That was pathetic. I thought they almost had a first down too, and was pissed. Then next thing you know, it's 4th and long. WTF?

Sounds like its a good thing I was watching in a bar with no sound.

Speaking of Khris Francis and Mike Hughes .. I have noticed this year that a few players are wearing the same number. When did players start wearing the same number on the same team? I noticed it a few games ago with some other players.

Been happening for quite a few years now. Personally, I dislike it. Even the stadium PA announcer has got it wrong a few times.

doesnt happen in NFL. Has happened in college ball for as long as I can remember. At least since late 90s.

Lame announcers aren't exclusive to our game, obviously. This color guy for ABC doing Clemson/moo is either drunk or incrediblly stupid. Is openly calling for penalties to be called on CU to blunt CU scores, re: recruiting, saying that moo has "put a fence up around the state of NC" (meanwhile UNC is in first place in the Coastal), and predicting moo will be "FSU and Clemson level" in a couple more years (exactly what precedent is there for THAT in moo football lore?). What a moron....
