The MAYOR REFUSES TO REMOVE PORK FROM SCHOOL CAFETERIA MENU and EXPLAINS WHY:
Muslim parents demanded the abolition of pork in all the school canteens of a Montreal suburb.
The mayor of the Montreal suburb of Dorval has refused, and the town clerk sent a note to all parents to explain why.
"Muslims must understand that they have to adapt to Canada and Quebec, its customs, its traditions, and its way of life, because that's where they chose to immigrate.
"Muslims must understand that they have to integrate and learn to live in Quebec. "They must
understand that it is for them to change their lifestyle, not the Canadians who, so generously, welcomed them.
"Muslims must understand that Canadians are neither racist nor xenophobic. Canada accepted many immigrants before Muslims showed up (whereas the reverse is not true,
in that Muslim states do not accept non-Muslim immigrants)."
"Just like other nations, Canadians are not willing to give up their identity or their culture.
"And, if Canada is a land of welcome, it's not the Mayor of Dorval who welcomes foreigners, but the Canadian-Quebecois people as a whole.
"Finally, they must understand that in Canada (Quebec) with its Judeo-Christian roots, Christmas trees, churches and religious festivals, religion must remain in the private
domain."
The municipality of Dorval was right to refuse any concessions to Islam and Sharia.
"For Muslims who disagree with secularism and do not feel comfortable in Canada, there are 57 beautiful Muslim countries in the world, most of them under-populated and ready to receive them with open halal arms in accordance with Sharia.
"If you left your country for Canada, and not for other Muslim countries, it is because you have considered that life is better in Canada than elsewhere. We will not let you drag Canada down to the level of those 57 countries."
"Ask yourself this question - just once: "Why is it better here in Canada than where you come
from?" "A canteen with pork on the menu is part of the answer."
If you came to Canada with the idea that you will displace us with your prolific propagation and eventually take over the country, you should pack up and go back to the country you came from. We have no room here for you and your ideology.

Unless Canada is different than the US, I'm not sure a mayor would have any authority over a school lunch menu, anyway.

Does make me wonder if school systems with a large Jewish enrollment have a kosher menu? Or do they just elect to brown-bag it?

"Duvivier not only denied having made the statement attributed to him, he also denied that any request about removing pork from canteens had ever been presented to him . In his press release, Duvivier explained that "no person of any nationality or ethnic group whatsoever have made such a request to the municipal services, with Mr. Bruno Boel, Municipal Secretary, or myself ... this is a lie," adding that the presence of pork in school canteens had never been an issue."

Honestly, I kind of thought it was fake. But regardless, it's a brilliant response to such requests. And I'll knowingly send that fake letter around and try to pass it off as real in an effort to help people see the bigger picture - that traditional values and customs shouldn't be altered to appease the select few.

The problem with doing this is that the email falsely accuses others of demanding appeasement when they haven't. It's ironic because the point of the email is that assimilation should be the goal, but the email itself contributes to an "us vs. them" mentality.

Which is probably the most destructive thing we encounter as individuals and as a species. It's strange how it appeals to our nature so easily and so often.

You're not suggesting that certain populations haven't demanded such are you? Because if you wanna go to link war, I'll take you to link war.

Certainly all kinds of groups (including Christians) demand public accommodations all the time, but there's no reason to make up untrue allegations about a specific group to make the point.

Surely you can connect the dots from this hypothetical situation to the litany of examples in America where a group claims they're being oppressed by something trivial and raises a huge stink to get it banned/removed/changed.

People aren't getting the point as it stands. So I'll do whatever I need to do to help move the point along and get people's attention.

You're absolutely right there. It goes both ways. Thank you for that.

Of course he can. He's choosing not to. And he's using two classic liberal strategies - (1) be as literal as possible in an effort to disguise the overall theme and (2) when in doubt, say, "*Christians do it too."

* - "whites" can replace Christians in the above sentence

If there are a litany of examples (which I don't doubt), why not use one of those instead of making up lies about a specific group?

And this email uses a classic conservative strategy: Make up lies about a specific group that you are trying to demonize and then get all self-righteous about the made-up conduct of that group.

I didn't choose what the OP posted. I'm assuming he thought it was legitimate. Turns out it isn't legitimate. However, I and others agree that his response (which was fake, we know) is a perfect response for American groups to give next time there's a situation where an atheist complains about a Christmas tree in public, etc. etc. etc. etc.

Yeah, I don't really have a problem with the response so much (like I said, I even agree with it up to a point). My only real problem with the email is that it uses lies about a minority group to make its point. There's no reason to do that unless you're trying to denigrate that minority group. And forwarding the email only contributes to a negative perception of the group. There are plenty of real examples of people making unreasonable demands.

Kinda sounds similar to when Christians demand that creationism be taught in science classrooms..

In general, when people are tricked by the many lies that float around out there on the internet it is best to just let it go. If the roles were reversed (and it was something that the right wing contingent disagreed with) here the conservatives would be hammering it and chastising everyone. If one can't discuss the overall theme on its own merit without using made up stories then it's probably best for those people to not discuss those ideas. The longing for something like this more shows how much hate there is for certain groups, which I get to an extent. Just call it what it is. That is what it is mostly about.
