This caught my eye from the article:

"and Kentucky and North Carolina are no-brainers, I think, if only because every man who has coached either of those schools for at least five seasons has won a national championship dating back more than 50 years.

Think about that.

History shows that if you're A) fortunate enough to get the Kentucky or North Carolina job, and B) competent enough to keep the job for at least five seasons, you'll win a national title.

There are literally no exceptions to that rule -- dating back more than 50 years."

Curious, Hmm?

Not surprised at the top 3 but I agree with Parrish. I thought Ohio State would get more votes.

Side note: Similar article regarding best offensive coaches with no mention of Roy which was puzzling. I'm not sure if its jealousy or if other coaches really and truly feel that Roy is overrated.

I can tell you from experience and first-hand conversations that there is that feeling out there in the coaching world. My take is that it is a combination of old closet resentments of Dean Smith (most respected Dean but it was often grudging respect) and a bit of jealousy that Roy is seen to have walked into plum situations and recruiting bases. The other side of that is the idea that Roy is just running Dean's system and benefiting from having the plum of plum jobs --- the old "man who follows the legend" thing.

Of course that's unfair in many ways, but human nature is what it is.

Now I'll be the first to say that last season wasn't his best work (the fact that it was rough year for Tar Heels in general notwithstanding), but Ol' Roy can teach, and Ol' Roy can coach in his own right. His opponents should underestimate him at their peril.

Roy is just putting into practice all that he learned from DES. It is how to run a program.
I sure don't hear people talking about when Roy drove around with the calendars...o_O
