Obviously this is a question for the older guys. Just curious but, how many ever attended a game at Carmichael and I mean when it was the home court for UNC men's basketball? I attended my first game at Carmichael on 12-6-1971 and UNC got waxed by Princeton 89-73 during a 25-5 season. In those days getting a ticket was no easy task.

ME!

My Dad took me to see them play UVA when I was about 9 or 10. We'd moved from Petersburg, VA to Nashville, NC when I was 6. My Dad was born and raised in Petersburg. We get to the game and I assume we're pulling for UVA. I'd never been to a basketball game before. He bought me a UNC pennant and said "We're pulling for the Tar Heels, boy!" I liked the light blue and white anyway. I never asked why, and it stuck ever since. That was about 1976-77.

Went to a few UNC/NCSU games in Reynolds and Carmichael.

And... We also were at the UNC/UVA game in 1982 when Ralph Sampson was at UVA. Sampson is the tallest man I ever saw in person.

Attended several, although tickets were tough to get as a student. Still have the ticket stub from dook @UNC 1981 among others

Went to many games at Carmichael State.. Md wake Clempsun many others waited for tix there too..... sat a LONG time in the seats

Great environment a still fresh memory in my mind is one game...forget which one...I was seated in an end zone and could look down into the tunnel leading to the locker room . Right before the game was about to start and the team was going thru its final warmups I see coach Smith in the tunnel taking a LONG drag on a cigarette. He never allowed himself to be seen on camera or at a game with a cigarette, but you could tell he really enjoyed that puff right before the game.

I went to probably 50+ games at Carmichael. I also got 4-5 opportunities to go in and shoot baskets on afternoons when it was open. Great place!

We would go in there to play hoops, too. They would usually have those four sided goals set up so that you had two full court games at once going crosscourt, but a few times we were able to run full court on the regular goals. now THAT was fun. To play on the same goals that Phil and Walter and Michael played on. Just to stand on that NC logo at midcourt and look around is the stuff that Tarheel dreams are made of

My first game there was UNC vs Virginia back in the 1967-68 year. Carolina's starting five were Dick Grubar, Bill Bunting, Rusty Clark, Larry Miller and Bob Lewis and they waxed the Cavs. It was also Dean Smith's first final four team. I was in high school and my brother was in Dental School at the time. He got my ticket and student ID from one of his friends, but forgot to get me the guy's athletic pass. When the usher at the door asked for it I just gave him a blank look because I had no idea what he was talking about and I figured at that point I wasn't getting in. The guy finally motioned me on in with a disgusted look on his face while mumbling something to the effect of don't be playing these damned tricks on me.

One and it was against So Fl in Dec of 81. I just remember it being hot and loud. We were in the very top row and had limited line of sight.

The DES is 1000 times better place to watch a game, although I get that home court advantage is lessened.

Funny you should mention that the temperature in Carmichael, Rich. Norm Sloan, the MooU coach in the sixties and seventies, accused Smith of purposely keeping it hot in there to give his teams an advantage.

Yes, hot and loud! It was very LOUD! And, a warm environment as well!

I saw too many games to count but my fav was my very first. when i was a frosh me and my roomie got two tix from dean smith himself (another story) to see unc play mich st early in dec. It was the year sparty won it all with magic and he was on the si cover. The first time magic handled the ball dudley bradley picked his pocket! Unc won that game by one. I was soaked with sweat and lost my voice for a day.

Sadly we ended that season with a "wtf" loss to penn in the ncaa tourney. Another great team that underachieved.

Me blue/white game I don't recall the year but we hado ticket to a football game and then went to basketball after the football game!

Winner winner. Against the Tribe of Bill and Mary.

Was that the game where Drew hit the left handed layup to win? I don't think so. I think they beat them by around 10 or so.

Also, you guys are kind of old. I thought I was old. Not so much.

I know we won but I don't recall a last second shot. I think we won sorta comfortably toward the end?

Twice 1978 against Jacksonville which we won by about 30 and then in 1983 against Georgia St. which we won by 30+ it seems. Never could get tickets to a conference game.
